AT&T planning June launch of 'All In One' prepaid brand

AT&T Mobility (NYSE:T) is planning to launch new prepaid services under the "All In One" brand June 15, according to people familiar with the matter. The carrier will likely offer a $35 per month service for feature phones and a $50 per month service for smartphones.

An AT&T spokesman declined to comment.

AT&T's All In One brand will likely offer unlimited talking and texting and a data allotment (it's unclear how much) for $35 per month for feature phones. For smartphones, the carrier will offer unlimited talking and texting and 2 GB of HSPA data for $50. The carrier may also offer a $70 smartphone plan that includes 5 GB of data. Users' data speeds will be slowed if they consume more than their allotted data for the month.

AT&T will test the plans in Florida and Texas this month, and has scheduled a nationwide launch of the service for June 15.
Sources noted that the details of the plans could change before they are launched.

AT&T's planned All In One offering would represent a strategic stab against Verizon Wireless (NYSE:VZ) as well as other prepaid carriers. Verizon recently launched a $35 prepaid plan for feature phone that includes unlimited mobile Web and texting and 500 calling minutes. And in February, Verizon Wireless effectively cut the price of its high-end prepaid smartphone plan from $80 to $70. Further, T-Mobile US (NYSE:TMUS) is working to promote its new "uncarrier" service that includes unlimited voice and texting and 2 GB of data for $60 per month.

AT&T's new emphasis on prepaid isn't a surprise. The carrier is working to increase sales of its high-end LTE smartphones, which is freeing up space on the carrier's HSPA network. Indeed, AT&T expects to cover around 270 million POPs with LTE by the end of this year.

AT&T reported losing 184,000 prepaid subscribers in the first quarter "primarily due to declines in session-based tablets and declines in GoPhone," the carrier said. The figures are a reversal of the 125,000 prepaid subscribers the carrier added in the same quarter a year ago.

It's unclear whether AT&T's All In One offering would replace the carrier's existing GoPhone prepaid service, or if it would sit alongside GoPhone. Via GoPhone, AT&T offers a range of options including unlimited talking and texting and 1 GB of data for smartphone users. AT&T also offers a $25 per month GoPhone option that includes unlimited texting and 250 voice minutes.

Looked great until I saw the HSPA part.....What exactly does this mean - no 4g LTE service for their new prepaid plans? I rarely go over 2gb of data, so this would be perfect for me. T-Mobile isn't an option for me because their network is shit here.

Usually from a certain set of phones the prepay carrier supports.

The only prepay that really supported generic AT&T phones (Straight Talk) basically got shut down. I don't see AT&T opening that door again.

I mean if I can just take a S4 over to pre-pay why would I pay more for post-paid?

No you watch, this will be locked to crappier phones and if you want a flagship device you will be stuck with a AT&T contract and a higher monthly bill.

There is a reason its not LTE. I bet AT&T LTE phones will be locked out.

Almost any att mvno supports byod. Gophone right now even let's you bring any device.
The new service can easily let you bring any phone lte or not and not give you lte access. It's all about the apn and provisioning.

Att and vzw both believe lte should only be offered to postpaid as it is a luxury service. Prepaid will be HSPA only. Tmobile and sprint will offer lte to prepaid so maybe att and vzw will change their mind later on.

Although I do think there is a catch here. Att gophone plans usually are crap and only get worse. It's probably throttled at like 1 Mbps or something. Wouldn't surprise me.

its not much of a deal, spend only 20 more and sign a contract and you get lte which is mo' betta
 
Still, AIO Wireless seems like a good alternative to ST unclear/ridiculous throttling and terrible CS.

and there are the other ATT MVNO options ( offer some plans less with service for less money which may be a better fit for some people) - Airvoice Wireless , Good2GoMobile , Redpocket Mobile

STOP launching stupid prepaid wireless options. In the US, prepaid is broken. People use prepaid across the world for trips and short term cell use. Long term should always be postpaid. They should look at reforming postpaid plans rather than using this idiocy.

Our postpaid is awful. It's devastatingly expensive compared to elsewhere in the world. I pay $200 a month for 3 Windows Phones with 2gb of data a piece, unlimited text and a ton of minutes. But I'm not allowed to tether my phone unless I buy the 5gb plan for another $25\mo. 🙁
 
I am perfectly happy with my Tmo unlimited text/data 100 minute plan and have been for two years now. Not all prepaid plans are stupid.
