This is just getting ridiculous. Now they are going to charge microcell data use against their insanely low data caps. So, you are going to pay AT&T for a piece of equipment because their network sucks that uses your paid bandwidth pipe for data, and they are going to charge it against your cap even though it's not going through their system. God help you if you have AT&T DSL.

Yes, I realize that most people who will be in range of their microcell with be in range of their wireless network. But that's not the point and not everyone has wifi or wifi on their phone.

This is why I use unlimited Boost CDMA $50 flat no surprises, on Sprints network, unlimited everything. How would they even make caps since you have no contract? I guess they could bork your phone after X limit was hit but last month I used 9GB on my TP2 with tethering from my store.

I'm already getting everyone else in my family to switch to Verizon by the end of the year. AT&T lost me as a subscriber last year, and they will lose 4 more accounts from my immediate family soon enough.

But I don't need to pay Verizon for a femtocell to get voice/data service in my home. AT&T, on the other hand, wants to charge me extra for their shit service so they can piggyback on my broadband connection.

You buy a phone it's yours, you can use it with any carrier,no contracts, no ETFs, use it without advertisements on it, and DL apps from anywhere. The carrier is just that a carrier not your master. Fuckin CDMAs don't even work anywhere else but USA. They, Sprint, Verizon, Boost, Cricket, Metro PCS, etc did that on purpose too.


For those interested here is how to get nice smart phones for $50 unlimited everything using Sprints network....saves about $50-$60 a month and no contract.

The problem is two-fold here, though. US telcos (same with broadband providers) don't want to be dumb pipes like in other countries - they want to brand and control the entire "experience". The other part of the problem is that US cell customers are perfectly willing to let them, as long as they can keep getting their "FREE PHONES!".

Although the tide slowly seems to be turning on that one, with things like the Nexus One, or T-Mobile's "Even More Plus" plans, were you can finance full-price equipment, or pay it outright with cheaper plans and no contract.



Oh, btw CDMA is also used in Japan, Canada and dozens of other countries and carriers. Code-Division Multiple Access is also used for 3G GSM data services (UMTS/HSDPA/HSPA+ all run on WCDMA). It's only the implementation of the Big Two carriers that make it undesirable in the US. In actuality, it's a better technology than GSM.

Honestly, I don't really care. I'm simply attempting to correct your misinformation about cdma ONLY working in the USA, when dozens of countries and hundreds of carriers use it across the world. Hell KDDI even uses "SIM" (cmda spec calles them RUIM) cards and you can switch CDMA phones out on that carrier just like GSM! Shock, horror, awe!

I'm never going to go Europe, so for all I care then can use analog PCS over there.

One thing I don't get is why would you use 3G at home where nearly all users have wifi? How many phones these days have no wifi? All I can think of is the Palm Pixi, which isn't on AT&T. Still a dumb policy but it doesn't seem to have much of a real-world effect.
