AT&T is raising prices for broadband internet access

Just got a letter that ATT will be raising their internet access prices from $39.99 to $45.95 :| :| :| :| I live in MA... anyone with RCN cable? How much are you paying a month? Any other broadband solutions that are cheaper?

That's what happens when your stock goes from $80 a share to $9 a share in a matter of 9 months.

Pretty soon it will be like their long distance - someone will call and promise you broadband access for $29 a month, and you'll get the bill for $50. Then they'll tell you "We don't have a plan for $29 a month, sorry. You'll have to pay the $50 you owe us anyway."

I hope that company crashes and burns in business hell for all eternity.

🙂

I don't think of it as 6 bucks but a 15% increase.

And your point is? A service provider has the right to set the cost of their service. If people don't think it's worth it, or can't afford it, they won't buy it. Providers will maximize their profits by finding the perfect balance between price & volume. Plain & simple.

I would rather see a price increase and know that I'll have access next week, then to come in one morning and find the company went tits up the night before and shutdown the network.

This is just the beginning. Expect aol/rr/@home all to raise their prices. The internet economy sucks, nobody will stay in business if they are losing too much money to keep afloat.

Whats $5? Thats hardly lunch money these days.

*cough* Northpoint *cough*

I don't have a problem with a small hike - I'm hooked on broadband, and if I got to get my own modem to cut costs, then I will...

You need to get yourself a real business connection...t1, frame relay, something along those lines.

/checks today's exchange rate, takes a glance at the cable bill.../

hmm, $29.95 CA = $19.54 USD

MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA🙂

I predict that Russ will arrive shortly to extoll the virtues of Qwest DSL.

tits up?

anyway, verizon is trying to kill local DSL ISPs with their $39.95 price. i'm still using an independent that is using verizon's lines for $49.95 a month.

Qwest rocks!

Their sales people are idiots and need to be carefully guided in order to get them to do the right thing, and some of their tech support people might be a little slow on the uptake sometimes, but...

They have the one thing that I REALLY care about. A stable, functional, problem-free connection. Plus, I know they'll be in business next week.
