Upstream and downstream speeds will be managed to provide a faster and more consistent broadband service.

loosely translated: there's a download cap of 1.5 Mbit...

I was among the first of the ATT@Home customers to be switched over to attbi.com on Friday night/Saturday AM. My service was down for less than an hour. So far my biggest complaint is the new email address, which is causing quite a few inconveniences.
The 1.5Mbps D/L cap does suck a bit, but the service still seems to be very fast and pings are actually better.
Face it, people... @Home was losing money and is going bye-bye. Whatever service that replaces it has to have an improved business model in order to survive. That means that we are going to have to pay more money for less. Cable is still cheaper and faster than DSL in my area and slow dial-up isn't even worthy of comparision.

OK, now that it appears that at&t is gonna put a temporary fix in place for this mess I have been looking into a company named WinFast for phone, cable, and broadband service. Anyone ever hear of them? Any thoughts/experiances?

Thanks

I think you mean 500kbps (kilobytes/second).

As long as I can download, I'm happy! Dang, I'm in Sacramento, which is scheduled to be fixed on Thursday. Add in idiotic fsck up time, that's like next weekend ... I think I'll pretend to stay overtime at work just to get connection ...

I'm in San Ramon

Just finished setting up my router and everything's back to normal. DSL report shows the download speed is only 1408 kbps and upload 115 kbps. This sucks big time, I used to get about 3 mbps download.

I have AT&T broadband in West LA, and never lost connection. Probably because I am on the service they bought out here in LA. It used to be mediaone, then became roadrunner, and then AT&T broadband a few months ago.

As of friday evening I tested at 532k down load and 412k upload. With the mediaone/roadrunner I was supposedly capped at 4Mbps down and 384kps up.

I will retest this evening to see if that changed. I am guessing it did. If it did then I will have to see what kind of re-imbursement I can get since the servic I am paying for is 4Mbps/384k.

I retested. Downloads ranged from 70KB to 450KB. So they haven't capped the old mediaone/roadrunner users yet. I expect that to happen sometime though.

AT&T should be banished from this Earth. They are the greediest monopoly in existance and I for one would like to see those arrogant b@stards who run the company sent to live the rest of their lives in Siberia. Why? Cos from their monopoly position, they happily overcharge the consumers ( who lets face it, usually have no choices ) for a cable service, and then pay a pittance to company's such as excite@home who have worked so hard and at great cost to provide this country with a great broadband network. They end up going bankrupt as a result, 'cos the greedy little ( big ) AT&T is playing a game where they are trying to take over the company for next to nothing. I for one am not happy with this new capped service. It sucks. The technology is there ( Excite@home proved it) to provide a super fast internet; but Greedy 'ole AT&T provides us with a capped pathetic system and, of course, expects us to pay the old rate of $50 a month! Screw that. I think all us AT&T customers should get together and give these greedy b@stards an ultimatum. Uncapped and improved service, or they can go to hell! Where is the I-Hate-AT&T website, anyone know ??

Just venting my opinion. Bleedin' monopolies!!!

haven't been informed as to what's been going on with th whole AT&T/@Home thing... just a couple questions:

1. I've been configured statically... should i be configured under DHCP now or should i leave it?

2. What happens to our email? same email accounts or what?

9thman,

What do you think about the local bell companies, to me they are a bigger monopoly.

KK,

Sorry, I can't say I know too much about how the local Bell companies are behaving. I just pay them $28/month (ish) for local phone service and I cant really complain about that. I do know, however, that they are continuing to install those cheap telephone lines that only give you 26.4kbps dialup connections. Instead of the quality telephone cables. Why, you wanna share with us your thoughts on their behaviour??
