The phone shown in the picture has an answering machine, so it doesn't match the description. This could be AT&T's version of the $9 V-tech BB sells. The replacement battery is $15. Can you say 'Just buy a new "disposable" phone'?

Oddly enough, there are several photos of the phone at various net merchants and they all show the same photo with the answering machine? None of the descriptions indicate an answering machine, however.

Ok, I took the plunge and just received one of these. The handset is the same as in the photo, but the base is much smaller (no answering machine). Looks like a nice phone for <$20 shipped. Thanks Jokersmoker!

Doh! Spoke too soon. After charging, I now see that the caller id screen does not work at all. Now I have to go to all the trouble of returning it. :disgust:
