Here's a stream of posts from Adam's twitter page about the fun he is having with AT&T. And who says Twitter isn't entertaining? LOL

Text messaging fees are stupid robbery? (they are), AT&T is attempting to charge me 11k for a few hours of web surfing in Canada. Pls RT!

Almost forgot: Hey AT&T! I will fight this bullshit.

Did I mention they've turned off my phone until I pay? #attsucks

@sleepingbri you read it right. $11,000.00

In this day and age, when he is probably as connected and tech savy as anyone, he didn't know about international data roaming? It's his own damn fault and I hope AT&T milks him for every dime.

According to this page, the Canadian data rate is $0.015/KB. That's 7GBs worth of data. I can't imagine doing 7GBs worth of data over a few hours with a phone...

Add the 69 cents PER MINUTE for roaming.

data shouldn't have anything to do with minutes. Completely seperate billing.

AT&T will settle this quickly with him.

What do you think they care about more? $11,000 or a bad PR campaign led by a celebrity?

They don't charge a per minute usage for data do they? I read the page in the link as calls were charged per minute, data was charged at a data rate and text messages were charged on a per message basis.

That would be truly BS if they charge you a data rate and a per minute rate together for websurfing on your cell phone.

When I was in canada with my iPhone it told me the rate was $15/MB so that works out to about 730MB.

By my calculations that's a little over 700MB.

In this day and age I should be able to download 700mb in Timbuktu for less than $11k. That's ridiculous.

If he hopped on another network he was most likely charged the roaming fee per minute of data use in addition to the use itself.

it does make me wonder what he gets paid, however.

You gotta be kidding. He should know about roaming fees. I often visit an area in Michigan right across from the Canadian border. In certain places, my signal comes from a Canadian cell tower. I am very careful not to use my phone until I get within range of a US cell tower.

Not much sympathy from me I'm afraid.

But it's freakin' 2009, why would it cost that much anywhere? I could maybe see if you're bouncing it off a satellite from Everest base camp, but updating your Facebook in Winnipeg shouldn't cost as much as a small car.

People seem to be missing the point. It's not about whether he knew about the roaming charges or not, it's about how fucking ridiculously high the charges are in the first place.

The "market"sets the rates.
