My cable internet from AT&T has been going down at least once a day at around 7:00 PM PST. The connection usually revives itself in about 10-15 mins. Sometimes it happens again later that night. This has been happening for about a month now and its really pissing me off. I've spoken to 5 other people who use AT&T's cable internet service and they've experienced the exact same problems as I have. Some are accross town, so it's not just my neighborhood. I've called tech support and they say that this type of this is normal and probably from "too many users on". Thats BS. I than spoke to a higher tier tech support and he claims that this is normal and they "dont guarantee 'always-on internet' ". Thats also BS. Does anybody have any ideas as to what could be causing this problem? I'm in the Fresno, CA area.

Its probably signal strength. Everyone is checking their email at the same time and bringing you down. Are you home during the day? if that is the issue it probably goes down during the day sometimes..

over winter break I was home durring the day and it didn't go down. I find it hard to believ that everyone in the neighorhood is checking their e-mail at the exact same time, than suddenly discounting.

Have they sent a truck to your house and had the signal tested? Something is obviously interrupting the signal..

i asked about that and they said that if the didn't have a problem they'd charge me some high service fee to come out. Also becuase it's happening to other people outside of my neightborhood, I have a hard time believing that the same problem is hapening accross town.

I had the same problem about a month ago... where my connection would cut out at almost the same exact time everyday. Our signal would get so weak... and i could only connect back on if i dedicate a line to my cable modem without splitters... which is how it should be in the first place but somehow... it's fine now even with splitters. I don't know if its a coincidence but the problem went away when the cold season began... i don't know if heat had anything to do with the line. Perhaps you should get your line checked... when i called att they were also clueless as to why i was losing signal.

Wow never knew that modem http address.

Didn't think it would work cause of my router.. but it did.

Mine says...

CABLE MODEM DIAGNOSTICS

PC Connectivity:
Cable Signal: Ready
USB: Inactive
Ethernet: 10 BaseT
USB VendID: 06 9b

Tuning Complete
Ranging Complete

Data Service: Ready

Connecting Complete
Configuring Complete
Registering Complete

Configuration Parameters:
Computers Allowed by Service Provider: 1
Computers Detected by Modem: 1

Plus the MAC address.. which I think I'll keep to myself ;)

Mines running fine .. doesn't seem to indicate signal strenght tho.

Yup depends on the modem, and the provider, some will lock you out of those pages. Motorola surfboards are awesome and offer full signal strength info as well as some logging of prior events. If we see his signal strength and the errors in the logs it should be pretty easy to guess whats wrong. :)

i posted an ATT rant a couple days ago cuz my cable was pinging over 400 and the tech's didn't know what to tell me except for, it looks fine on our part, sorry. They also offered to send out a tech for a nice price of 50$. Nik is the ATT Second Tier Tech of ATOT, so hope that he see's ur thread and answers ur question or gives you some help, because aside from him, 30 minutes with various ATT tech's brought me nothing but frustration.

50$ to fix your service? That is freaking insane. Tell them fix the damn thing or lose your money I don't get that at all.

Well my problem is probably not directly related to yours, but before I bought the Netgear 4 port wireless router, I had a Linksys 4 port router. That router would disconnect me at exactly 11:40PM for 2 minutes everyday. When I disconnected my router from the DSL modem and just hooked up the DSL modem to my PC, my internet connection will not disconnect at 11:40. I have static IP, doesnt need to be logged in. As soon as I hooked up the new Netgear router, my problem was solved. Linksys tech had no idea what is going on. Just thought you might wanna hear some odd stories.
