2. The girl is walking in Badwater, the lowest point in the north american continent, -282 ft below sea level. As you walk out into the basin, it starts relatively dry and firm but slowly builds up to wet until you hit a ~ 1 inch deep lake. Death Valley had a pretty substantial storm hit it in mid-October, dumping 2 inches of water in an hour. Death Valley typically has 2 inches of water in a year.
