Actually, even in the bay area, there are coyotes and bobcats. And cows. And rattlesnakes.

But I have my dog with me - and there is typically dozens of other people on this particular trail.

There has been a rash of coyote sightings in the neighborhood in Ohio (day and night). since they are usually more active at night, I've stopped running outside. Typically coyotes don't attack adults, but I'm not taking the chance in exchange for getting fat.

why some of us choose to deal with snow 5-6 months of the year, I have no idea.

Thanks Spoon. Yours is frightening. Good, but really frightening. A photographically similar shot of one of our late cats hangs on our walls, but with a much, much more content face.

Thanks for the compliments.

As for sharpness, it was a compromise. Even stopped down to f/16 I couldn't get the foreground in focus with the background (and even by f/16 I was hitting ISO noise), so I decided to put the focus on the mountain, and lower the aperture to blur out the foreground. Even then there is a lot of haze in between the camera and the mountain, so getting the detail on the mountain was actually a bit of work - if I remember I'll post the SooC image to compare with.

That's taken at McIntosh Lake in Longmont CO. The mountain is Long's Peak, I live nearby and go walking around the lake frequently.

My wife is a frequent companion, plus she likes to walk the dogs there during the day when I'm at work.

For those interested, this is the straight RAW -> JPG without any developing work. The auto-white balance selection is really cold and loses all the nice color from the morning, plus the lack of detail.

Nice shot as usual. Was 30 seconds, f/8.

Very cool to be an inspiration, thanks for mentioning that. I can see what might be appealing about the shot, which I'd say is the single spot of light, heavy with possible meaning, and the road-like ground.
