Both cards would perform well at that res, however certain games like Oblivion and The Witcher would definitely favor the 4870 over the 9800.

I ended up getting the 4870 1gb for #300 from newegg. I sold my 9800GT for $100 so it cost me about $200 to upgrade to the 4870. I just got it today so when I get home I'll be testing this sucker out...

huh?

The 4870/512 plays Grid very well at 19x12 with Cat 8.9.
- i am no fan of racing games, but Grid is really cool

it also plays smoothly on a 280GTX with ultra settings, 4xAA

It might be good as an arcade game (Codemasters has churned out nothing but arcadey racing games for a while now) but it is utter crap if you want a sim-like game. rFactor (with ie. F1 mod) or GTR played with a proper wheel is much more realistic. Unfortunately Codemasters have the rights to the next Formula1 game...ugh...we can be assured it'll be no sim. I wish some company would come up with a supremely realistic F1 game...I'd be willing to pay $100 for it...and I'm not joking.

The 4870 should be faster in just about every game, since it's a ~$300 card, and the 9800GT is a ~$100 card. Why would you be comparing cards with a $200 price difference, though?

Well I finally made my purchase on 4870 1GB AX4870 1GBD5-H for nice price, so add me on the list. Would of prefered to have a visiontek, but for some reason they aren't making 1GB cards. Well can't wait till it comes in.
