After taking national registry tomorrow, I'll be a state of Ohio EMT-Basic. Next on the list is 240 fire, then EMT-Paramedic. Eventually I'm going for Critical Care training. I'd love to do life flight, but that usually goes to ex-military. Hopefully when I start working I get some nice traumas. :D

I'm right there along with Mo0o. Med school starts this fall.
Where and where?

St. George's in the Caribbean.
And they have a first year program where I can go to Newcastle for my first year of class.

Ah, I got the interview but declined due to my acceptance here at Tulane. their GSP program was definitely interesting.

You know, I like the NREMT program except you have to maintain employment to maintain your license. When I first certified in CA, I almost went out and got it, but I never had the time. I applied to all the ambulance companies where I lived but got nothing. I think being 18 and no work experience was part of that har har har.

BTW, RELS (Redwood Empire Life Support) in CA doesn't require, or really desire, ex military for their flight medics. They want paramedics with 10 years of experience and thats it.

Interesting. I've been told by the medics that taught our basic class that (here in Ohio anyway) in order to keep your state card vaild/current you need to do 72 hours of continuining education every two years and for national registry it's $20 to renew every five years. I'm sure life flight requirements vary by region. Around here we have so many medics you can't swing a dead cat without hitting at least six of them. Gotta have something a little more special on you skill sheet to land that job.

i'm not a doctor yet (chiropractic, not medical), but i'll be one next year :)

i'm a chiropractic student and i "work" as an intern in the student health clinic. next trimester, i'll be a senior intern in a satellite clinic treating the public, not students.

Making a career switch from accounting to PA...taking a couple years to ace all the prerequisite science classes. If I excel in them, I might as well take O-chem and physics and shoot for MD. I'd like to work in Pediatrics :)

Not clinically trained, but I work with the cardiology and medical records departments on a daily basis.

I haven't trained/worked in the US, so I haven't got the USMLE.

This may, of course, change if I see a fantastic fellowship opportunity that I just must apply for.

I want to go to med school, but Im a bit nervous about getting in. My GPA isn't anything special. For those of you who made it in, how hard was it?

for many schools, undergrad GPA is important.

if your undergrad GPA is poor (like mine), you can compensate with a killer MCAT score.

I had a 3.2 undergrad GPA (and even crappier GPA for sciences; I went to Cooper Union, where they don't inflate grades), so I had to study my ass off for the MCAT, which I did well on (12V 12P 11B).

That being said, it still took me a couple of application cycles to get accepted.

It's really a crap shoot, no matter how you spin it.
