At long last, the promised pics

Okay, for anyone unaware of the hell I went through last Spring, the ordeal is over.
We're in; not completely settled in (LR is empty while we finish the work in there, and the dining room is gutted.)

So far, we've put in new water lines,
Coal stove to heat with in the winter (Thankfully we aren't heating with oil this year!)
We've finished all three bedrooms, office, and bath so far, except for the flooring; I'll wait until all sheetrocking etc. is done before I install the carpetting and hardwood flooring; that way I avoid getting them all dirty/scratched/etc.

Anyway, after being out here for the whole summer, I absolutely love it. It's perpetually peaceful out here. At night, you can see a bazillion stars. We're getting better at planning trips for our needs - groceries, stuff from the hardware store, feed for the animals, etc. The more we can get in one trip, the better. Anyway, here are the long overdue pics:

p.s. Anyone want to purchase a large satellite dish? Coat it with aluminum foil and you've got a giant parabolic reflector 😛

This is a shot from the backyard looking out toward the field; I own well beyond the field. The apples on this tree are already delicious; a month to go though.

On the way back to the house, I took this pic of some honeybees. Mmmmm, honey. Now, how do I distract these guys while I steal their honey? They're inside the wall of the chicken/turkey house.

Any complaints about the size of the pics? Too bad!! A relative wanted pics of the place, and I'm not uploading a compressed and uncompressed version; especially with dial-up.

And, we've put in flower beds, built stalls in the barn, . . . quite a large list of things we've accomplished. Especially simple jobs, but jobs that required a great deal of effort - cleaning up huge piles of garbage (old roofing, etc.), removing 4 huge pine trees, except for the lower half of one of the trunks, which I think is visible in one of the pics. I've been considering using it as a telephone pole for lighting if I toss in some horseshoe pits or something... beer and horseshoes under the lights with the friends 🙂

I don't know how long it took. I put them all in a compressed folder and uploaded all ten at once. Meanwhile, I took my son to football practice (6 miles away), came home, picked up apples on the ground to feed to some of the animals, played with the dogs, drank a can of soda, went to the bathroom, and like magic, they were uploaded already. I expected to have another 10 minutes wait when I got to the computer 😉

actually, it's probably good that I have dial-up. I've become quite a bit less reliant on the computer. It was taking over all of my spare time; now I couldn't care less.

aren't those alpaccas expensive? I thought I remember seeing a website selling those animals for like 30,000 dollars.

With all the money we've put into the place so far, probably into the low 50's right now.
House cost much less than that; but 2k for the coal stove and 2k for work on the well, pump, pressure tank, etc., added up quickly. Other than that, it still needs to be rewired in 3 of the rooms (no big deal) and I have to put up new sheet rock in the dining room (gutted it). Otherwise the interior only needed cosmetic work.
This fall though, I've gotta insulate the attic. I put in a ceiling fan and was astonished to see I only have about 1 to 1 1/2 inches of insulation up there. We figure coal will cost us between 160 and 200 a month this year, based on last year's usage. But, that was before we discovered the lack of insulation. I may be able to knock the heating down to 2/3 of that.

that was a different place. We got screwed out of it because of a mortgage broker.
Low 40's for this place. (just in case you thought 90's was disgustingly low 😀 )

Very nice place you got there! looks like a great place to raise kids and grow old. 🙂

I really like the fact you have a stream close by. We had a lake near my old house in NH but it was city water so swimming was a big no no.

What I envy the most is the quiet. We live near two main roads, one is literally behind the house. So having the window open at night makes in impossible to sleep!
