Blah... I had a major case of "DUR, Me = st00pid" Syndrome that ate up a good hour or so of useless disassembly. :) I just so happen to have my DVD-RW drive plugged in... but not powered. The system would hang... AND would not even POST correctly when I hit the reset button. The diagnostic LED bracket would say that it was trying to find out about the CPU and that worried me some. So I took the board out, took the heatsink off, cleaned off the AS3, reapplied the AS3, mounted the heatsink on again, mount the mobo back on again, powered it up, still got nowhere... and then off the corner of my eye I see an unplugged DVD-RW drive and I thought...

"If this thing works after I powered it... I'm gonna be really pissed..."

I truly despise those times when the solution is right in front of you... yet you spent mounds of time trying to figure it out on a hardware level. But it happens... and I was a victim of it. Big "Doh!!!" :)

Oh, and I forgot to mentioned that I missed the CPU VID that was in the Cell menu and had it absolutely set to 1.40v. SpeedFan reports the vcore at 1.37 right now... but I'll rerun Prime to see whether or not this changes anything. The journey continues...

I will be interested to see how you do. I just assembled this combo (Asus A8N-E/X2 3800/Kingmax PC4000) today. I'm running rock solid at 2300 (230Mhz FSB, 4x HT, 1.40v). I can post with higher bus speeds but it just hangs at the second post screen where it should start to load an os. Not quite sure what is happening. I have the HT set to 4x mult so that should keep it under or equal to 1000 up to a fsb of 250. I've tried fixing the memory at 400 and lowering the cpu mult to 8x, resulting in the stock 2000, but it won't go past. Have to try some more.

Maybe I missed but is the OP of this thread running 2 instances of prime???

If you are good for you....that is a damn nice chip....

I can 1.296v at 2.2ghz prime 95 12 hours
I can run 2.4ghz at 1.36v (stock vcore)

2.5ghz needed 1.42-1.44v

2.574ghz need 1.46-1.48v

2.6ghz needs 1.50-1.52v....

Did you use 1005 or above version BIOS for your A8N-E? Seems you didn't lock the PCI bus at 33.33Mhz, or maybe it's a bug in 1005&1006 BIOS which cannot lock PCI bus at 33.33Mhz. Try to flash back to 1004 BIOS which I know the PCI bus can be locked at 33.3Mhz. 1004 BIOS is X2 ready. :)

I'm running 1005. I neglected to mention that I did set the pci bus to 33Mhz. I'll give 1006 a try.

I upgraded to BIOS 1008. Same behavior. Can't get past the second post screen where the os should start loading at anything over a fsb of 230.

HyperTransport Multiplier: 4x
PCI Express: 100MHz
PCI Bus: 33MHz
Memory: Auto or 400 (supposed to be rated DDR500)
Core Voltage: Auto or up to 1.5
CPU Multiplier: Auto or down to 8x

What does this mean? If I am understanding correctly the only thing out of spec is the fsb...

Please try 1004 BIOS instead of 1005 or higher. Seems it's a bug in 1005&1006 bios.

1004 did the trick. Running rock solid at 2500. Under a heavy load the heatsink is barely warm to the touch, very unlike my P4's.

Did you disable floppy driver in BIOS? I can't get past the second post screen at FSB over 230Mhz when I disable floppy driver using 1008 BIOS. Enable floppy in BIOS, then I can do 260X10 without problem.

As a matter of fact yes. Disabled the floppy.

Enable the floppy, then you should be able to pass 230FSB using 1008 BIOS. :)
