Just read an awful article. Apparently there is an on-going investigation to find out if one of the girls who died was actually run over by a fire-truck.

"S.F. plane crash: Police probe whether truck hit girl"

]The San Francisco Police Department's hit-and-run detail is investigating the death of a 16-year-old girl who may have been run over by a fire truck after the crash of Asiana Airlines Flight 214, authorities said Monday.

The girl's body was found near an evacuation slide after the plane crashed Saturday at San Francisco International Airport. Fire Chief Joanne Hayes-White said the girl suffered injuries consistent with being struck by a fire truck or other vehicle.

Why would she still be near the evac slide though? Should have walked away from the burning aircraft if able to walk.

Other versions of the story have the two fatalities coming from the rear of the fuselage during the slide down the runway. That would put them well to the rear and far away from the two deployed evac slides. Why would a victim walk all the way up near the evac slides of a burning plane?

Story still needs clarification.

We don't yet know if:

A: Standing upright and hit by vehicle and killed
B: Laying on the ground injured and hit by vehicle and finished off
C: Already dead on the ground and body run over by vehicle

That struck me as very odd as well

I think the issue is how low you are with respect to water. I fly into so much and I've done it on MS FS hundreds of times too for the 28R landing, and you definitely are high enough where you will pass the seawall and over taxiway F and still figure to be like 50 feet above ground at least. So if you're THAT low and all you see is water to the left and right of you, then something's wrong.

Edit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QueiGi5Js74 From about 1:35 those are your last 10 secs prior to touchdown. Sure there's water, but you still fly over the beginning of the runway.

I've done enough trips to HKG and back to SFO that I don't really worry too much. ANother interesting thought is that ICN is over water but the runways are like 1000 ft inland, so you come in pretty high above water and by the time you see land on the left or right you've still got a little way sto descend.

The threshold has been moved further down the runways than what we see in that video. It's quite a bit further away from the water now.

Are they done moving the threshold yet? I haven't flown out of SFO since April due to the construction. I try to avoid it the best I can unless I have to go international. They've been at it quite a while so perhaps...

I don't know. I didn't even know they were doing runway work until a poster at Airliners.net showed me that the threshold had been moved not too long ago.

So it's even harder to screw up and hit the sea wall now...

This video starts almost immediately after the plane came to rest. Very interesting. You can see the deployment of the slides. There is some bad language.

Part 2:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DDR6DO3WnZ8

It looks to me like before the slides were deployed a bunch of people had already left through the hole in the tail section.

I've heard a 911 call where some woman is complaining that they've been there for 20 minutes with injured people and no ambulances have arrived yet. If so, that contradicts earlier stories about a good/rapid response etc. (Although the fire dept looks like they did arrived rather quickly.)

Just when you think people could not be any more stupid, we have this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rFwNfbsPny0
Oakland TV station KTVU solemnly reported the names of the four pilots operating the crashed airliner: Captains Sum Ting Wong, Wi Tu Lo, Ho Lee Fuk, and Bang Ding Ow. The NSTB admits that an unpaid intern was answering the phone and confirmed the pilots' names.

It is hard to condemn the gallows humor in the face of all that stupid. Never mind the intern, how can a news anchor team be that stupid?

They are paid to look pretty and read the teleprompter, not for any journalistic skills. I had to admit I laughed when I first saw the video.

In related news, Asiana is planning to sue KTVU over this: http://www.cnn.com/2013/07/15/travel/asiana-offensive-names/index.html?hpt=hp_c3

Easy enough to determine time. Recorded crash time and 911 call.

Also people WILL exaggerate time in a crisis.

Yeah, I laughed too. I laughed even harder at Asiana suing. "Forget those dead people, the real problem is racism!"

Both are retarded...what would they "sing" if they were on a plane like that? Laughing?

You can'n laugh at peoples suffering if you're not a retartd...A TV station can't make a jokes about accident...or names - It's not Jay Leno "Headlines"

I could say, davmat787, could be different understood if in russian: "Davmat" - "let fuck my mom" "дав мать", "в" - in russian pronounced as "v" -"I'll Give Mom" - how DavMat could be understood...

Should we laugh about?

Only retards...as those, who laugh on posted links....

I later heard a very plausible explanation for the caller's complaint about a lack of ambulances. Because of fire and the possibility of (additional) explosions emergency plans require that ambulances be staged out of harm's way and 4 (IIRC) are sent in at a time. As those 4 ambulances take on injured and drive off, others move in etc.

On the other hand, why americans should NOT laugh at Asiana Airlines, because US does NOT have 5-Star Airlines, Jet Blue is best in US with 4-Star rating, rest are at best 3-Star airlines...Below 4-Star airlines such as Turkish Airlines, FinnAir, Lufthansa, Air France, Emirates...and some others...

Many of the airlines that you mention are national airlines.
supported by the flag country.

In the US there are half dozen decent size airlines; most countries are lucky to have two airlines.

The US airlines are not subsidized and have to compete against ech other and subsidized airlines.

When cost is less a factor; quality can be improved.

It's okay, I know your idea of humor comes from soviet era PRAVDA comics, so you wouldn't understand. Neither of us were laughing at the accident, nor its victims. Rather, we were laughing at the dimwitted newscaster, producers, teleprompter programmers, who couldn't realize they were being trolled.

I laughed at both, but neither is laughing at the people suffering. The first is laughing at idiot newscasters who cannot tell that "Sum Ting Wong" and "Wi To Low" are fake names. The second is laughing at Asiana Airlines itself for daring to be outraged at a trolled TV station right after they killed four people. Not to mention set up a family of four with a very sick child in a one-bedroom hotel room and ordered them not to speak with the press. Not nice people. Considering that their pilots crashed a plane because they thought the throttles were on autopilot when they were not, not smart people either. It's worth pointing out though that the TV station was fooled; they were not laughing at anyone. And the Asiana folks weren't laughing either.

Exactly. No one should continue after reading "Sum Ting Wong" and seeing "Wi To Low".

Sadly it has been confirmed that one of the 3 girls killed in the crash, who was ejected from the tail end of the plane was indeed alive when she was run over by a fire truck after being covered in fire retardant foam. Its pretty depressing news to think that this girl could of lived had she not been run over by first responders though I can't fault them as the scene no doubt was chaotic but something needs to change in their operating procedures to ensure incidents like this do not occur again.

SFO crash: Coroner says Asiana crash victim died after firetruck ran over her

SAN MATEO -- In another heartbreaking turn of events since Asiana Airlines Flight 214 crash-landed at San Francisco International Airport two weeks ago, a coroner revealed Friday that a teenage girl jettisoned from the disintegrating aircraft initially survived but was killed after she was run over by a fire truck responding to the chaos on the runway.
Ye Mengyuan was alive when she was ejected from the plane after it crash landed at San Francisco International Airport on July 6, San Mateo County Coroner Robert Foucrault said Friday. Authorities said her body was discovered in tracks in flame-retardant foam that had been left by one of the San Francisco Fire Department's Airline Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) rigs that responded to the crash, which killed three passengers and injured another 182 people on board.
