1) what state are we talking about?

2) Regardless of legality, they would have a great civil case since you signed the agreement.

AFAIK, companies can hold ex-employees responsible for training costs, equipment, and the like should they leave if in there signed contract. Without a contract, it's up to the judge.

Hire a lawyer.

At most, you should owe a consultation fee... don't be a cheap ass. Get quality advice from someone who is qualified to offer it in your state.

the training was just training in one particular piece of software used by our firm. normally they charge thousands for that class...

but the ROI is waaaay more than that...thats the way i see it...
