At jury duty now. This blows

I really understand the need for jurors. It is the backbone of our judicial system and so much better than having just a judge deciding on ur guilt or innocence. That being said it is really boring and such a pain. Work is busy. I'm getting work done on my house too which means I also have phone calls all day long.

I just hope that I'm done after one day.

Bah!!! They just told us they have free wifi here and I dint bring my laptop. I could have gotten work done.

I wish blackberries supported active x so I could log into my work computer.

Just ask the judge if the Jury can recess so you can vote now before the trial starts.

That should get you kicked off pretty quickly.

I get full pay plus whatever the pathetic amount the city gives you for not going to work.

One day I'll be picked

😉

if the glove dont fit, you must acquit.

Man, I cringe at the thought of getting picked for a jury trial like that. How fucking long did that trial drag on for?

yeah thats also where we'll get a free room, free food, free swimming pool, free HBO -- Ooh! "Free Willy"!

hmmm... at our county courthouse, we only get free drinks and... nothing else... we can't bring any electronic devices in...

In Houston we didn't even get free refreshments (I didn't get picked for a trial but I still had to sit in the waiting room for the entire afternoon).

Jury duty is awesome. It's worth it for simply getting me out of my normal job (I still get my full pay), but I love being a part of the judicial system and helping determine the outcome of a trial. I was the jury foreman the last time I was picked, and it lasted 4 days. Loved every second, and I can't wait to go back.

I love all of the lame excuses potential jurors give during selection. It's embarrassing some of the bullshit that's said to the lawyers.

i'm sure there's an rdp client for blackberry....

just imagine if you ever had to go to trial for whatever reason, your fate is being decided by 12 people who probably don't want to be there...

Hmm. What if people who have run out of unemployment benefits could just sit at the top of the jury pool for a while. Might be a useful way to tackle two problems at once.

Actual excuses I've heard for not serving:

"My dog has anxiety attacks if I'm gone longer than two hours."
"My second cousin on my wife's side is a cop and I don't think I can be objective."
"I don't believe the court system is fair."

If you were intelligent, you wouldn't have to worry about serving. They only choose people easy to manipulate.

Too bad intelligence doesn't come with a conscience. Some of us see it as a duty, slacker.

Dang, that was going to be my excuse if I got called. Guess I'll have to say I'm rigid and form opinions early.

Where did I say anything about not wanting to serve? I would love to. Unfortunately being college educated hurts my chances of getting chosen.

Thankfully my DUI and subsequent jailtime will never allow me to serve.

No, you would just be ineligible for sitting on drunk driving cases unless your case left you with a permanent hardon for the justice system. Do you really think a juror can't have had any legal problems themselves? That's what jury selection is for.

Based on what? I have two degrees and it never seemed to keep me from being called and serving.

Why would they want someone that may have now have a problem with authority?

After you see what the sheriffs deputies are capable in County, you wouldnt trust one on the stand to save your life.
