Ok, this is a serious request for help. I need help in moving my ideas into product, or cash.

I am an idea guy. I probably come up with 3 or 4 inventions a month, some of which I think have great potential. Some of the ideas are websites, new software, new physical products, add-ons or upgrades to existing products, or a way to use a current product to fill another need with some modification. So basically they are all over the place.

I have watched as some of my ideas have been realized and turned into product over and over again. Sure on a lot of them I am sure the patent and development had been going for awhile before I thought of it, but I am sure some of the ideas I have right now have never been conceived by anyone else.

1. What is the easiest way of turning an idea into $$ (or a business)?
2. A lot of my ideas for products are just the end result, I have no understanding of the engineering that it would take to create such a product, so how can I demonstrate a beta? (Ok, I am not talking about creating invisible earphones, or any else that is just not possible now, all my ideas would be quite easy to make I believe)
3. Another set of ideas work on existing products... How do you contact a company and pitch your idea without them laughing at you, kicking you out and then roll with the idea?

On another note, would anyone with a lot of experience in design, programming, engineering, or manufacturing like to start a business together? I think a fast moving company of 5-6 people who brainstorm and push for finished product could do pretty well these days..

it is my experience that if a brain doesn't stop, you need to take a hammer to it. :D

I am curious tho...what ideas have you come up with? I know I, personally, and prolly most people on these boards have some nutty ideas too.

Well none of my current ones are going to come out on a board.. But here are a few:

back in bbs days, when 14.4 modems cost a sweet $200 I drew up a device that was an external modem that had other modem ports to connect more than one computer to it (like a modem router) It was for homes that had more than one computer but back then home networking was not really heard of.

In high school I had an idea that all police handguns should have a device that looks like a laptop touchpad embedded in the handle. The cop would program it to to recognize his palm print and maybe that of their partner. No one could shoot that gun but those who were programmed in it.

There are tons more, these are just the 2 that stick out from the old days

The reason I even ask here, is I consider ATOT to be a very intelligent place.. There are some very bright people here, and as a community I think we might be able to profit if we all put it all together.

You're not an inventor just yet, but you may be on your way...

I think it was Edison who said genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration.

I have had quite a few invention ideas..... but a few years later they were on the market. (and I didn't really tell many people about them)

Basically.... don't ever try to do anything... ever. You will fail. :D

I went to one of those invention submission places and they basically tell you that the only way to get your product on the market is to pay $1000+ and have the product researched, then pay another $1000 to have them contact manufacturers to see if they want to produce it. Meanwhile.... anywhere in that process, a company can change 1% of the idea and make their own version (patent or not).

Just give up.....seriously. I am not trying to be mean. The only way to bring out a new invention is to work for a company that takes your idea and gives you jack for it.

Sorry.... :(

Check out inventors' digest, some good information there. Nice folks who really do what you are talking about.

I have done this before and they want $1000.00 up front to help plus they take money on the end product.
Not worth it in my opinion
