SETI@Home Battle
Anandtech, BBR distributed computing race
From our crew in the SETI@Home forum comes word that Anandtech has put out a call to arms on their website, worried that our distributed computing SETI crew is about to snatch sixth place (world-wide) away from them. So if you've got spare computing cycles, head on over to our SETI forum, read our SETI FAQ, and then join our team.. continues click here..

from www.dslreports.com

I don't participate, but I am sure the distributed guys already know about it so I posted here....supposedly it's a pretty non-invasive install.

Yeah, they are bound to pass us any time soon if we don't keep our production up.

Or join SoB to help out with the MTR that's still running.

Really, what's the rush that this can't wait until another DC race finishes ?

A few of which actually have scientific potential. In my opinion, SETI doesn't, so I don't participate.

SETI started it all. It has also located many new radio sources of interest to astronomers. It's also soon going to be replaced with BOINC, which has a variety of other purposes, all scientific.

Because the current SETI project will end within a few months, at which time all stats will be frozen. In other words, we don't wanna go down at 7th place when we coulda kept 6th. Granted, we can probably start owning right away when SETI2 comes out, but that's another battle for another day.

PS: IN the last 24 hours or so, we've been passed quite painfully. We went from having the lead over BBR by more than 40,000 work units, to being about 32,000 below them. Need more power captain!

Well, I finally joined. I've got 4400 units done, and do ~8 per day... it's not much, but it's something.

It sure as hell isn't in this thread, or in any other SETI related thread.

It amuses me the fact that 3 or 4 people have come in here not to offer help but to tell us what WE CHOOSE TO DO is a waste of time. Its not up to you, you dont have the right to tell us its crap, Keep your opinions to yourself we dont need thread crapping. Every DC project is as worthy of our CPU Cycles as the next so STFU and go and thread crap somewhere else.

1. This is the off topic forum.
A public meeting place, a Pub, if you will... A place for computer junkies to boldly post Off Topic... Things you might want to tell everyone... Or things you wouldn't say to anyone else.

2. There's already a sticky thread about DC here, as well in a handful of other forums non-DC related. Another SETI thread was created here within the last few days as well.

3. It is a waste of time.

4. I have the right to tell you it's crap. It's crap. See, I just did.

5. Off topic = place I can put forth my opinion.

6. SETI is stupid.

7. Off topic - opinions (aka thread crapping according to you) are allowed.

8. All DC projects are not created equal.

9. Me STFU? How 'bout you GFY? mmkay? k.

"BOINC"?

Pronounced "BOINK"?

I think we can all support getting more "BOINK"!
