Hey guys,

A friend of mine is a budding artist who joined a Starcraft 2 art contest. He made it into the finals, and people are being asked to vote who is the best among 8 final entries. He is a really talented artist-- here is his piece

Spectre vs Ghost

Here is the website:

I know people are really averse to signing up in order to vote in these contests, but I think he really deserves to win this contest. Maybe some of you starcraft 2 fans already have an account that could vote? The registration process just requires a username, password, and a confirmation email.

I agree, that's the best, he should win.

I remember I've seen Blizzard-held art contests before and I saw much better work. But oh well, your friend can take advantage of the easy competition.

Thanks Akhen! I think he will win too, but I just can't get over the fact that other artwork that seems pretty inferior actually getting a fair share of the vote.. makes me think someone else is asking people to vote for him too.

Just bumping this -- #6 is down to a 4% lead from a previous 10%. I suspect the person in 2nd place has people pulling for him too.

Pretty surprised. Every other piece besides his is just terrible.

Yeah, I know. I do a little drawing too on the tablet, and its pretty galling to see someone like #2 close the gap.

For those who are too lazy to click on links, compare these two:

The second picture went from a 15% to a 10% to a 4% lead. Pretty inexcusable if you ask me.

#2 is definitely the only competitor though. It's got good detail, but still a bit amateurish.

Uh, I'm no art aficionado but the first picture looks fine to me. The second picture does seem...crisper? but I don't see it as leagues ahead of the first.

This is only based off the pictures posted here, I haven't actually looked at the site.

A quick search for Starcraft Marine will turn up images like this..

I think the #2 image borrowed heavily from references in order to get the pose and armor, while Spectre vs Ghost is done from scratch except for the armor. There's a pretty big difference from being able to draw a pose you haven't seen vs one that's slightly modified from existing images. I also believe the technical quality of showing color and light is more impressive and interesting in #6.

@GodlessAstronomer: Thanks for the vote!

We need more votes AT! I'm sure any art aficionados here can appreciate his work too =)

Also, the second picture is an action shot conveying a sense of motion and the first is just a guy standing there, with zero context or personality. The second is much more evocative.
