It's like we should arm these cops with non lethal weapons or something.

Well it depends how much time they have as it looks like it charged him while he had the weapon out so you don't get a lot of time to grab for a stun gun.

And even if you did do that what do you think would happen to a dog that tried to attack a cop?

Cop1: "Hey, we got this guy subdued and there's a dog running around, can you help?"
Cop2: "NO PROBLEMO. LET ME GRAB THE BIG GUNS WITH THE SLUGS"
Cop1: "NO GRAB THE TASER"
Cop2: "Nah, I just need 1 more shotty kill to get my medal"

If you have a pit bull, or are interested in this subject, you should watch Beyond the Myth on Netflix.

It's how Miami and Denver both put out a ban on pit bulls, and then went to people's homes and just took their pit bulls. We talk about our rights degrading daily; how'd you like to have a cop come to your house and take away your dog to be killed?

Some really interesting facts in this doc too... did you know more people are bitten by Golden Retrievers each year than people are bitten by pit bulls?

I've seen statistics that claim that over half of all deaths resulting from dog attacks are caused by pit bulls, followed distantly by rottweilers. I don't trust the accuracy of that statistic any more than I would trust the accuracy of any statistics in a documentary with an obvious bias. I know it jives with the my personal experience though. All the dog attacks I've ever heard of, which in practical terms means all dog attacks that were serious enough for someone to consider them worth recounting, were caused by Rottweilers and pit bulls.

It makes me hesitant to trust those breeds

The video part shows there was no time as the dog got out of the car and proceeded to go after a cop, it wasn't like a stray that was outside the entire time and wasn't going after someone right away.

Tasers work fine if you have all the time in the world for something like this but even then I would doubt the dog would remain alive for long if they did have to use it on a aggressive animal.
