Don't know. Any way to tell from within Windows XP?

I bought it back when they were $135, a few months or so after they came out.

I already have PC2700 memory, had to replace my motherboard last month when my older KT133A board died on me. Bought the RAM and board and kept the CPU.

The motherboard is an Epox err something or other... nice board, RAID LAN etc. all built in, it was like $120 or so from the local computer store.

For what, the motherboard?

I bought it from IMS computers:

http://www.imscomp.com/

System was down, needed it back up quick, so I went over and bought the motherboard and RAM from them.

Still have 512MB of Crucial PC-133 SDRAM, don't know if it is worth anything or not.

It is the better of the two Epox boards, that much I remember for sure.

I agree with the first post, but maybe I'm not as hardcore either... and maybe Anand isn't either.

I look at Anand's main page and see an abit article that I don't care about because I don't need a motherboard, case reivews that I'll never read because I don't need a case, an XP media center article that looks sort of interesting, some notebook I don't care about, a small athlon form factor i'll never buy, Faq update I may read if work is especially slow some day, and a HW price guide from December.

Face it, video cards, CPUs, motherboards, and chipsets aren't all that interesting anymore. Anand's writing about notebooks and software.

Also, if I ask a question around here I'm likely to get flamed as being stupid (thanks Ameesh, you M$ wh0re) :p. The tech board is better for a good answer with no BS.

The dynamics of AT is truly changing. And it always seems to old timers that it is changing for the worse. But perhaps if we give it time it will shape up and get back to that focus? It is true that the forum was much hardcore before. It still is very much technical, but there hardly seems to be the nerds who were there and willing to answer and in a timely fashion. Additionally, the economy must affect the market for hardware, hence less questions in that regard.

a very large portion of people here are of fairly average intelligence and knowledge, many are pretty stupid, and ATOT is like a high school. the only reason i havent left is sheer habit and familiarity, although i keep pushing myself to read at ars openforum more, i just come here as second nature.

although there are a few people who know what they're talking about..

Well good for you, you don't really care about motherboards, CPUs, chipsets, cases, laptops, etc. But obviously AnandTech's 3.2 million readers do. ;)

Point is, most users do care about these things, just not you. Oh well...

There is really no need for a faster stronger PC than anyone, who has upgraded recently, has had for at least a year. Seriously, the answers reflected on the forum are going to be a mirror of what people smart or dumb, hardcore or not hardcore really want to know. When games, applications, or whatever come out that cause peoples PCs to grind to a stinky halt, that is when the questions start occuring. At home, I find myself and many others still playing games like Counter-Strike, where my FPS caps at 100 constantly, there is no need for anything new. Even new games, which arn't even all that great, don't stress my computer when it has 1 gb of ram and a GF4. My 2 biggest questions recently have been: when can I get a decent lcd and how can I keep my athelon running cool.

It is kind of annoying when people on a forum have to constantly prove what they know to others. When people's computers are working correctly, the last thing they usually want to think about is computers (at least from my experiences).

Maybe there are less "true nerds", but if that is the case, go find them on the internet or wherever they may be.

I agree....

gone have the days of weekly site updates. If you look at the main page now under the column site updates... it's empty because it hasn't been updated for so long!

gone have the days of weekly reviews... well good reviews.

gone have the days of delivered promises. (power supply round up last year,
With AMD?s Hammer (and corresponding motherboards) due sometime this quarter, we?ve decided to conclude our coverage of Intel?s 845PE chipset with a final individual motherboard review before the swarm of new motherboard and chipset technology (which includes Hammer and Springdale/Canterwood products) start arriving in the coming weeks/months.
which means no more 845pe round up)

anandtech has really become a tier 2 source of hardware information in the community. If they keep up like this... all that will be left is the forums and I mean long term (2-3 years).

I've been in the process of figuring out a new system and I find myself ending up at other websites instead of AT to find the knowledge that I need.

what are your questions? perhaps I can help... :)

Yeah, I miss the hardcore motherboard wrap ups of 10 mobo's with the same chipset. Now its just like a two board comparo showing off the chipset itself. Also miss all the video card wrap ups with 10 or so cards with the good ole TNT2. Oh well. :(

I think it's lack of a killer app that causes the slump. It used to be everyone needed to plan games like doom and it's million and 4 clones and your clunky 386 couldn't hack it. So then everyone needed a nice shiny pentium or 486 dx2-4. Afterwards, there was another little slump in interest until the internet hit. Suddenly everyone had to have email and www and dial up accts and minute trackers to make sure their children didn't have to pay more than they were allowed by their isp. Suddenly, ms convinced everyone they needed a p2 or 1st gen p3 with more 4x the RAM they used to have. Then quake3 hit. Everyone needed a machine that could pump out more fps than the guy behind him because it let him jump better and smoother. Then cs/hl hit and everyone needed a machine that could survive the number of sprites thrown by an sg @ 40fps minimum. Then the .coms hit and flooded the market with relatively cheap computer hardware once they went bust. This made it necessary for hardware manufacturers to punch out a flurry of newer, better hardware to attract customers. Now tho, we find the trend is that there is no need for something shinier and better. Linux gained ground incredibly fast after the .com bust and people found that they could stretch the lives of their machinery by a huge order of magnitude by not following MS and Intel's computing guidelines. Freelancers who were tech savvy invaded the market and found that by slashing costs on hardware by using older hardware more efficiently, they could up their bottom dollar. The internet has done a tremendous amount to slash the momentum of hardware because now all your great applications can run on million dollar servers housed in a datacenter in bora bora and you can run it through a browser that's been able to run on your computer for years now. Look at babelfish. Look at webmail. Instant messenger has been around since chat applications first hit the net. The simple fact of it is that no one has developed a reason for people to upgrade. You can't really say, I need a p4 3.0 ghz with hyperthreading because I need to type a report for school. Or I need to surf the internet. Or I need to play cool online games. You can do most everything your techie neighbor can do now so there's no need to upgrade. No need means no interest which tranlates into slower IT world. I think MS is actually going in a good direction in creating a need with winxp mce, but my money is still on the proliferation of the internet. I think as time goes on, people will want/need more internet services and, to compensate, datacenters will need to upgrade to new technologies to accomodate. Eventually, it won't be the PC that people need, but that fridge that happens to have a PC in it and can cook dinner for you from a recipe off the net. I think it'll start with the re-symmetrization of everyone's internet connections personally...but that's my shot in the dark.

PS - Every time I read little/big endian...that children's song plays in my head -- "one little two little three little indians, four little five little six little indians. Seven little eight little nine little indians 10 little indians ruh!"

Go here, here, here, here, here, here and here.

That's 4 nForce2 articles (including 6 nForce2 motherboard reviews), 6 SiS 648 articles (including 5 SiS 648 motherboard reviews), 3 Granite Bay (E7205) motherboard reviews, 4 KT400 motherboard reviews, 8 845PE motherboard reviews (5 individual ones plus a 3-way shootout), 11 845E motherboard reviews, 2 P4X400 motherboard reviews and 2 KT333 articles (including 10 individual KT333 motherboards).

Do you know of any other web site over the last six months that has reviewed 50+ motherboards in detail?

And yes Yvo, we go to college. In fact, currently, all of our active writers (including Anand) are smack in the middle of college. Think of how many more articles we'll have in just a couple years. :D

EDIT: One more thing Yvo, our last site news update was just over 26 hours ago. :)
