AT doesn't seem very hardcore anymore

Like a lot of the hardware forums move slowly now, and when specific knowledge is needed, people are often directed to other hardware sites. It seems like stuff doesn't happen around here very much anymore.

I've been in the process of figuring out a new system and I find myself ending up at other websites instead of AT to find the knowledge that I need.

Most of the action is in OT :)

I agree though, not as much action as when I first joined.

I guess people are lazy and/or just freeloading in OT too much to care about the "other" forums.

I find if I need help I am able to find it. OT is a great place to spend too much time at also.

I disagree. CPU/OCing as well as Motherboards have been very busy lately. I should know; I've in both almost exclusively for the past week. It's the whole B TBred thing that's happening right now in conjunction with the whole NForce motherboard thing that's happening right now that's creating all the buzz. :)

I go to storage review for all my tech needs. The guys there are the best on the net and VERY helpful.

What's come out that has everyone stoked? R9700 is six months old, Geforce FX is the Duke Nukem Forever of the hardware world, no one really needs the newest 3 ghz P4s or whatever when a 2.5 ghz is fine, and everyone's been waiting for Hammer for the last year. Nothing really is out that makes everyone upgrade, so less people pay attention to the real forums and just waste their time in OT.

You're correct about all the hardware you quoted. But hell, I've been wasting my time in OT for two years now!!! There's a rebirth (I think...) in overclocking these days. Yields are good, and the "smarts" are there for folks to be able to come up with things like the pin-wrap trick and whatnot. I think it's great. :)

What, people soldering video cards to make them run faster isn't hardcore enough for you?

I agree. I was just thinking today that maybe I should upgrade something because I haven't in 6 months, but then I realized for the first time that this system is good enough for what I do now.

X-Man, it's pretty HC in my opinion, but the info didn't come from AT, it was just posted here from another source.

2.6GHz P4?

Heck, I've got an Athlon XP 1600+ and it works just fine. Why upgrade?

But are you running it at a 166MHz FSB? That's what Inquiring Minds want to know!

Have you posted any threads in Motherboards, CPU/OCing, General Hardware or any other forums asking questions about the system you want to build? Kinda hard to get any useful info without posting questions in the forums. :) Anyway...is there any particular example you can think of that has made AnandTech less hardcore recently?

Even without the forums, you can get a pretty good idea of what to buy by reading our numerous motherboard, CPU and video card articles. By reading our motherboard articles, you know that Corsair memory is a great way to go, and I think just about the only really important thing we lack is a hard drive/storage section, which we're going to be relaunching soon.

Nope, stock config on a KT333 motherboard (266MHz FSB)

Hopper

What stepping is that XP1600? If it's AGOIA or AROIA, you're most probably (99%) sitting on another 300MHz! KT333 mobos have a 1/5 divider. Get some PC2700 memory, crank the FSB to 166 and see what happens. That's exactly what I, and about 1 million other people are doing. :)
