Alright, so I'm a dumbass. I got a mall massage today, and I basically assumed the chair would be entirely padded, but it wasn't... there's a huge metal bar in between the places where you place your knees. Long story short, I sort of "hopped down" on it in a fairly free-fall and landed my knee right on the metal. It really hurt, but I didn't realize until about 10 minutes later that I was bleeding AND had cut right through my jeans.... the cut itself is pretty deep and my knee cap hurts like crazy.

Is this something I should get checked out? I can walk fine without issue. I can kneel on it without issue. But if I try to squat or run, it's killing me. Does it sound like it's just bruised or might I have fractured my knee cap or something? Thanks.

Umm, don't run or squat would be my humble suggestion.

If it get's infected and starts turning black, apply a tourniquet above the affected knee. After a few days the bad limb should fall off harmlessly.

You're welcome.

OP, you'll be fine. Just put some rubbing alcohol and have a beer. Knee caps grow back.

If the wound is deeper than half an inch (? I don't remember the exact depth so someone can butt in here) then Tetanus should be a worry if you haven't been vaccinated in some time. Clostridium Tetani is an anaerobic bacterium that can only thrive if the wound is deep enough where it won't make much contact with oxygen free radicals.

The other thing I'd worry about is a Staph infection. If it gets pink and becomes infected then get to a doctor. If the wound is too big to close on its own then you may need stitches.

Tetnus shot wouldn't be a bad idea. 7-10 year booster is recommended. My insurance company gives them out for free. Much cheaper than an extended hospital stay combating a crusty case of lockjaw.

You can walk and kneel without pain, and you're asking us if you FRACTURED YOUR KNEECAP?

Ice it and give it a week.

No wonder our medical expenses are so high...no common sense any more.

I highly and professionally recommend you call 911 ASAP. Please provide the EMT or Medic that shows up with a link to this thread. Then ask them.

The American way is to sue. You need to sue for at least a couple million dollars + cost of ER visit.

You may possibly need an amputation so you want to sue for say,10 mil. You don't want the medical costs eating into your profit.

tetanus is caused by bacteria not by metal. the misconception that metal cutting or puncturing you causes tetanus is because in those cases the metal was dirty and contaminated with the tetanus bacteria. therefore if you step on an old rusty nail outside you would have high risk of tetanus, but cutting yourself on a chair inside a building (i would think) is extremely low risk. as long as you don't go rubbing dirt in it haha.

but it's always better to err on the side of caution

You bumped your knee and are asking if you should see a doctor? Really?

The OP has to have the most mis-leading user name around...he's about the most un-manly Matt I've ever "seen."

Of far more importance OP...can you sue for your injuries?
