Yes, I will call a real doctor tomorrow, but I'm impatient and probably won't get to see a doc till later in the week anyway.

Last Thursday, I was carrying about 7 laptops in their backpacks. It was either this, or the minor burn from hot cheese from pizza... but Friday morning, my right ring finger was throbbing a little with pain. minor, but annoying. The finger was also sensitive to cold, too.

over the day the pain seemed to move up my arm. I figured I pinched a nerve or something. Finger hurt a little, but still, it was random when the pain would hit. Still figured it'd just go away.

It then traveled to my bicep on saturday, and the tip of my finger hurt more. But I noticed that the nail bed at the tip of my finger just separated from my nail. figures, it happens every so often when it's dry enough.

pain has shifted mostly to my finger now, and if i feel for it, in my bicep too faintly.

why I finally started to worry: my finger tip looks like this

It looks like bruising underneath the skin, like I slammed my finger in a door (because I have done that, and it looks like this, but more singular and larger). What drew my attention was there were 5 separate dots/bruises. two where my fingernails touch the nailbed, and those 3 in the pic.

so wtf happen...

Was there any trauma to that finger while carrying the backpacks? Did you carry more weight on that arm than the other? Are you sure it's not muscle strain (what you're feeling in your arm)?

It could be muscle strain, weight was evenly distributed, but excessive. Which I'm guessing is what the arm pain is and the finger is just pure coincidence

well, after that extra pertinent info i'm going to guess due to the visual you posted and the throbbing you noted that it's a herpetic lesion.

Keep in mind it was in OT before it was in H&F. I honestly wouldn't worry too much about it, OP. Ice it if it's swelling and take some ibuprofen. I bet it goes away quick-status.

You have bruised it along with pulling a muscle.
You should be more careful.

*Taps sarcasm meter* I can't tell...

I doubt he pulled a muscle. He may have tweaked one of the bicep tendons or something, but the muscle would be the bigger problem than the finger tip if he had pulled it.
