I'm having trouble with some other sites such as netflix too so I doubt it's isolated to AT.

Just never understand the Comcast sucks meme.

because they are a horrible company with terrible ethics and they only started chnaging once people stopped subscribing. the two years you had were not 2005 to 2007 in the twin cities

I visit a few dozen sites and this is the slowest of the lot. Considering that this is a computer tech based site, it doesn't bode well.

This is why I load-balance my viewing habits. If AT is acting up, I go to Cracked, Escapist, or just launch Steam. I have some flexibility because I am not working. I know you folks "working" can only browse the forums and not get blatant and just sit there and play games.

Now that you mention that, I did notice that at random, avatars vanish, but it's always affecting some random members and not all of them.

Maybe we should move to this great forum software called FuseTalk. I hear it's pretty awesome and maintenance free.

Come to think of it, did Fusetalk have weekly downtime? lol.

Really I don't get why they have so many issues. The only real difference between this and another forum is there is more traffic. And it's not like it's Facebook level traffic where you need to recode everything in C++, they just need a decently beefy server, which is easy these days. They do make quad socket motherboards and 6 core processors and you can get a couple GB of ram on a single motherboard these days. (not sure if that would even be necessary but I imagine the more the better if caching algorithms are used) I would imagine they colo and not lease, so you can build a server as beefy as you want without having to pay more per month.

The site could (and probably has) put a mere $2000 into a server system that will pull the site for a long time. With all the database errors recently I think it has been more of an issue with something storage related to a software issue.

The traffic today seems to be half if what it used to be. But we did have a subscriber server.
