I'm looking all over for a fog light switch for a mustang to fit a 94-2000 model... want to hardwire my radar detector... OEM is over 30$ so I'm trying salvage and ebay... I call autozone and they say

her: "uh, sir... we don't handle those.... [long pause] ...parts"

me: "let me get this straight. The commercial goes 'parts parts, gimme parts parts! At Autozone you can find the right part!' repeats ad nauseum and you guys don't carry the stinkin' part?"

her: "uh.... [really long pause] ...no"

Weak rant. Autozone is a generic auto parts store, and cannot possibly be expected to carry every single part for every single car ever made (nor even made within the last 10 years). But I give you a couple of points for effort.

Try asking for something that USED to be very common...

Me: "I'd like a ballast resistor."
Counter Monkey: "What's that?"

I agree with the OP's rant. I just finished a front end restoration on my '70 Chevelle and (unfortunately) had to use Autozone a few times for some small stuff.

Example: I needed an alternator/fan belt in a custom length because I changed to a (slightly) different crank pully size.
Me: Do you have an alternator belt in this length.
CounterMonkey: What year car
Me: It doesn't matter, I just need it in this length
CM: Sir, I need to know the year make and model
Me: OK...it's a 70 Chevelle 350 4bble Coupe etc...
CM: He looks it up and says i'll be back. He brings back the STOCK part
Me: Thanks but that won't fit
CM: Yes it will it's the stock part
Me: I explain to him again why
CM: I can't help you if you are going to be difficult
Me: What!?!? Just go and bring me the next two belts up from that size
CM: No, they won't fit
Me: Let me talk to the manager
CM: No
Me: ????
CM: !!!!
Me: F-you

I then drove another 10 miles to get to a NAPA. It took approximately 2 minutes to find the right belt (he did exactly what I told the Countermonkey at AZ to do without having to be told)

Granted, this is a 'complex' two-part problem that I asked the CM to do and is out of the ordinary but geez, it ain't rocket science. Especially when I TOLD him how to help ME and then he REFUSED!

Cliff Notes:
1. Went to Autozone
2. Asked Countermonkey for part
3. He said didn't have
4. I told him how to find it
5. He REFUSED to do it
6. Asked for manager
7. CM said NO
8. I said F-U
9. Went to NAPA...no problems

Morale of the story....*>AUTOZONE

The worst commercial is the one with Darrius Ruker (Hootie) singing in a really bad country/cracking voice about "No matter where or when, we're read in Advance".

Horrible singing and a stupid jingle.

Poor hootie has to do Advance Auto and Burger King commercials to get by.

AutoZone is my store of choice for cheap parts (I drove a 1987 Chevy S10 until last year).

I know of several OEM Honda parts dealers that sell below dealership prices, so I buy fom them if I need to. I wouldn't expect AutoZone to have your specific switch... but if you wanted a generic one, I'm sure they'd have one on the shelf.

I also wouldn't go into AutoZone asking for a belt of a certain length... NAPA is certainly a better choice for something like that.

I just sold a 99 Jeep Cherokee. Can't tell you how many times I went to "the Zone" to get an air or oil filter for it and THEY WOULDN'T HAVE ANY. Sure there was a place on the shelf for them. But did they ever have any? Not in the 6 years I ownded the damn thing.
