I took guitar lessons for a couple of years in my early teens. I never really felt like I was good although I was probably better than I think. Reading this thread is getting me pumped to pick it up and continue learning again. to you Op!

Edit: I'm 34.

and it will sound pretty darn boring. if you listen to the recording there is a lot more going on than just those 4 unfretted strings

Shouldn't be too late. :)
Have fun playing guitar! I've been playing for 3 years now (I'm 16) and I keep getting better. If you just keep playing it as a hobby for a while like I did, you end up getting pretty dang good and not knowing exactly how... and then you start playing a lot more. :)

This thread has definitely been inspirational. Like i said before, I have the guitar and have already started learning via youtube, but this is great encouragement...

Yes, it's too late. Your head will explode if you try and cram any more knowledge into your brain.

SOOO that's what's been making my head hurt....I'm still learning stuff.....

Yes. If you drill a hole in your head, some of your old knowledge might leak out to make room for the new knowledge though. Of course, it's inconvenient when you suddenly forget your potty training or something like that.

As others have said, it's never too late for anything. You may not achieve certain goals that you might otherwise have had, but that doesn't preclude a level of proficiency that you'll enjoy playing for the rest of your life. Who knows, even a little ability on your part might inspire your children to play.

Enjoy and good luck!

I just bought a cheapo guitar from costco and I'm going to learn as well. I'm 32.

TIME TO ROCK.

I bought my first guitar at 22 - a Norman Acoustic - without any idea of how to play the thing. It sat for over a year. At 24, I started taking lessons. I had 3 months of lessons before I moved out of the area.

At 26, I'm no Jimi, but I'm a fairly competent rhythm guitar player. I'm sure if I practiced more, I could play leads as well.

I told my first guitar instructor, at 26, I was really worried about starting guitar so late.

He told me to fret not, you're 26. So I took his advice and never played again.

i just started and im 20. How could 23 possibly be too late. Just dedicate at least 1 hr a day to it on your free days. soon you'll learn chords and chord progressions and you'll sit there playing and strumming and an hour will pass so quickly.
