I am trying to overclock my 3000+ Winchester, I am able to get at 275 FSB (2.47GHZ) stable, but I chose the wrong ram, (Ballistix) and am unable to overclock synchronously (1:1). In fact, when I put my ram ratio to 133 (2/3 ratio) my ram is at 183 FSB. I cannot run my Ballistix at 2-2-2-6 or even 2-2-2-10 with any stability. I was able to get one benchmark in of 3dmark 2001, but the rest froze. Prime95 fails in under an hour, and I am frustrated. I don?t know if there is another factor I am not considering in my overclocking, I think my CPU is stable because I am able to run at a lower ram ratio or loosen my ram timings with Prime all night. Again here are my settings I can run with stability:

MSI K8N Neo 2 platinum
3000+ @ 275 FSB x 9 (2.47 GHZ)
2x512 Ballistix PC3200 @ 183MHZ (2/3 ratio) 2-4-4-10
Enermax 420W Noisetaker
HTT 3x / Stock CPU voltage

I would probably be fine with some DDR550 but honestly who has the money to spend on some TCCD based memory after spending about $250 on Ballistix. I don?t know maybe I could sell my Ballistix on EBAY.

Anyone want to trade for some G-Skill or Corsair DDR550? Just kidding? this isn?t a post to sell my ram, but to fix the issue I am having with not being able to overclock because my ram won?t run 2-2-2-10 @ 183.

Weird eh?

At stock settings, run memtest on the ram overnight to see if its actually stable. If its unstable, try it again with each stick individually. It could just be that your ram's bad.

Thanks man... it worked, one of the sticks was bad and one was good at 2-2-2...

Sometimes it's easy to miss the obvious.
