Hi, forgive me if I'm asking the wrong question. I'm looking between the Asus Z170 Deluxe or Maximus VIII Hero. I would like to overclock if possible. The Asus Z170 Deluxe has a 18 phase power design and the Maximus has a 10 phase power design. Does this amount of phase difference have a big impact in overclocking? I would like to get the Maximus because it's about $100 less but if the Asus Deluxe is a better board it might be worth spending the extra money. Thanks!

David

Either would be fine. If you are not an OCing fanatic then OCing on either will be the same.

In the end overclocking is determined more by the CPU. Even the best MB's won't get you past the thermal barrier of today's offerings. Most likely you'll be thermally limited long before the power phases become a problem. Higher end MB's do give more bios options to monkey around with.

Kenmitch, thanks....that makes sense. I guess that's true because I tried everything to overclocked my I7-4790K and no motherboard or cooler made much of a difference.

Got a Deluxe here, great board but the power phases are overkill. If it wasn't for the great Wi-Fi and the Bluetooth I would have been perfectly happy with the Hero. People are getting very good overclocks on both.

Where is the Z170 Pro Gaming in this equation? Is the Hero the sweetspot between the Deluxe and the Pro Gaming?
