Here is my rig:

ASUS A7V266-E
Athlon XP 1700
Windows XP Pro
431 W Enermax Whisper
----

Here is the problem. Under any version of Windows (Tried XP, ME, 2000) my USB are totally screwy. I am running XP currently, so I will detail what happens when running XP.

SanDisk Imagemate - Finds the disk, but slows the computer way way way down, eventually crashes/restarts and wont boot back into XP until I unplug the device.

My Logitech USB Optical Mouse - Detects fine, works for a little bit but windows randomly without warning will crash and restart.

My Epson PhotoStylus 870 Printer - Works OK with the standard XP driver, when using Epsons XP drivers, prints 1/2 a page and then will crash/restart

I thought this was a Via USB problem so I purchased an OrangeLink Firewire/USB2.0 card - SAME THING WITH ALL DEVICES

What could be the problem? Is it my devices don't work with XP? Is my mobo screwed up? Please help as I am going CRAZY here!

have you upgraded to the lates via 4 in 1's? there have been doncumented cases of previous version of the 4 in 1's not being able to run usb device well or at all, upgrade those to 4.37 for xp. if you have tried this and it doesn't work, we will go from there, also how much ram, and what hdd?

Thanks for the reply!

I am pretty sure I have ver 4.37 installed but I will check again / reinstall when I get home.

RAM: 512 MB Crucial DDR 2100
HDD1 (Contains OS & Apps) - IBM Deskstar 10GB 7200rpm
HDD2 (Contains media etc.) - IBM Deskstar 40GB 7200rpm

I will post tonight with my results, thanks again for the reply!

Well looks like I made some progress! I decided to remove my Sound Card (SB Live!) and Modem just for grins. Turns out my USBs work with them out! Well, not completley, my OrangeMicro USB2.0/Firewire card works perfect. My onboard USBs are still having some trouble. So I guess it was a conflict somehow, time for a new soundcard :)

I'm going to reinstall 4 in 1s and see if that will help out my on board usb's,

Thanks all,

Sounds like a conflict ,best thing is to install cards one at a time also try moving them to different slots might also help.

Btw there are no Via USB problems with KT266A boards,my Epox 8KHA+ has 4 USB devices connected all working fine with WinXP,as for the VIA 4 in 1 drivers I don`t think that will help since it only really updates the INF in WinXP.
