Wow kaingspade, you were freaking me out for a second.... now I get it - the "idiot proof product" 😀 😀 😀

Chill out a bit thar killer!

Well that ps has only 17 amps on the 12v rail, only way to tell if its enough is for you to hook everything up. Are you gonna overclock the CPU and the Vid card?

I have the OCZ 520 Powerstream.
I have 3 hard drives, 3 optical drives, 1 floppy drive, 1 12in cathode light, 3 120mm fans, water pump, coolermaster cross flow fan, coolermaster coolerdrive, AMD 64 3500+ overclocked to 2560MHZ, BFG 6800GT over clocked to 420/1100, I even converted one of the floppy connectors to a molex connector. Everything is rock solid as of right now. I really want to get 2 sata drives and raid it lol, then I will be using almost all the connectors.

i was planning on overclocking as soon as i install my zalman fan. this is the first rig ive

built and im not very experienced in overclocking, but would atleas like to try to go

around 2.2 on cpu atleast, dont think the vid card needs any oc

I think you should buy a more powerfull PSU, specially in the 12V rail if you want to have stability while overclocking.

Just hook up everything and see if it runs stable, if it does that, try some overclocking just the CPU, if it does that, keep the power supply. Only change it if you run into problems.

i have everything hooked up now and have had no problems at all, except when i tried

installing mu sound card, my comp at first booted to the bios setu screen , then the

second time i tried it said "system failed cpu test"????? the sound card worked fine on

my previous mobo (biostar M7vit)

Which PCI slot did you stick in? I don't think you can use the first one nearest the video cards, and you may have to disable any onboard sound (just a guess, shouldn't really affect anything)? Last thing I can think of is perhaps the PSU isn't feeding enough power to the system: adding the sound card finally put it over the top.

I can't imagine what could possibly be gained by using only one of the power connectors. But I can imagine LOTS of stuff that might go wrong without it.

I think you should assume the power connector is there to plug power into... and do it.

PS: yes, you have to have a fan running too, so don't unplug that.
PPS: Yes, you have to plug it into the AGP slot before it will work, so don't unplug it.
PPPS: Yes, you have to plug a monitor into it before you can see a picture, so don't unplug that.

etc, etc, etc.....

edit: Those 3DMark scores look normal. (11368 and 5053 here... see sig for system specs.)

yes, never considered otherwise.

Is this an awsome card or what?

I did find that I had my best luck using Nvidia drivers (67.66 first, now 71.20) when it came to overclocking.

I don't think ASUS did a great job on their "enhanced driver" or "Hardware Doctor" software. I tried to overclock with that installed and got dumped from 3DMark before I even got the clocks up to ultra settings (400/1100). EDIT: So I uninstalled the ASUS software and now use only the Nvidia reference drivers.

But this hardware... PCB, Cooler, Power Conditioning..... nothing but TOP NOTCH!

Then with the reference drivers, I hit the "determine optimal clock settings" button and both cards (I have two identical setups) came up at over 415 core and over 1.14 memory.
I backed both cards down to 400/1100 and they have been rock solid. The overclock to ultra gave me over 1,000 additional marks in '03 and over 400 marks in '05.

i wish i had more experience with this stuff, like i said this is the first rig ive built, but

have been slightly tooling around with comps for a few years but nothing serious. i just

lately was brought into the amazing world of upgrades and overclocking. unfortuantely, i

would not be comptent enough to try it on my own yet so any help and tips would be

very much appreciated!! my old setup consisted of a biostar M7vit socket A, amd athlon

xp 1800+ and 760 mb various pc2100. so as u can see i have a whole lot more

headroom to bump my settings up with but without the "know how" im afraid im stuck

with it the way it is until i get some educated assistance.

well, look at it this way.... overclocked or not, you have a great PC right now!

Overclocking is a fun hobby, but certainly not a necessity. Take your time and learn by reading and talking to people who know.

Then when you are confident, start out with baby steps. Make sure you know how to monitor your system properly to avoid overheating and breaking components.

Most of it comes down to removing the extra heat generated by components run over their design specs. So maybe start with learning about custom cooling solutions.

Good Luck and Have Fun
