So you can give us a first hand report on it's capabilities before we decide if we need one? :)

I can definetely report that the card's sata connection is slower than the motherboards by about 30MB/sec in my case with a Vertex 30GB SSD. Didn't get to test the usb 3.0. The article I linked to here also shows a large difference in IOPS when compared with the X58 mobo.

Dang. I blew $30 for no reason.......I should have waited until Intel boards have them integrated into the South Bridge.

Now that would have forced me to use 'common sense' of which I have a limited quantity. You can't just go using it using it carelessly. I might run out--- ;)

Ya....you're right....I find myself doing the same "conservation". :D

Well, the usb 3.0 works fine and you can always use the extra sata ports with regular hdds if you make yourself a nice server.

I took it out and traded it away. I don't need the extra SATA ports as I have the 4 port RAID card for my 2TB HDDs. I don't have any USB 3.0 devices as of now and I would rather see that technology incorporated into the south bridge along with SATA 6GB. I jumped on the bandwagon too early. It's a double-edged sword.....

This, should only take a few minutes to know for sure. Please post back as I'm curious if the U3S6 will allow booting from an optical drive. FWIW I think you'll be fine booting from the U3S6 because I boot my C300 SSD from that particular card.

Are you using the Marvel drivers?
Do these support TRIM?

I am very pleased at how my new card is helping my 4 year old system
especially with the speed of my new SSD intel hard drive. Before I bought the card, I was told on other forums that I would not see any improvement as my Intel series SSD hard drive was too low class, but I do see a difference and Im glad I bought it.

I am sorry that I am a newb when it comes to terminology and totally understanding all the new stuff, but Ive been building my own computers
from ordered parts for a long time now and Im happy I have the ability, if not any understanding with the new stuff. FSB used to be the big thing to be concerned with, and now its just gone crazy for the layman.

My Son Dan is in the Marines, so in order for us to play BF3 together
online, I built him this system and He is very happy with it.

OK, now to get down to brass tacks........ I have a small problem in that my C drive (Intel SSD) is now seen as a removable USB device
and has a REMOVE icon at the bottom right of my screen in the bar.
How do I get rid of that ???? Another thing is the drivers. I installed
the card and only used the old one that was on the disk for only the USB 3.0 I did not do anything about the drivers for the 6gbs Sata.

I read somewhere that I should look at the card and the chip number to find out what version I have, Kind of tough to do without taking the whole thing apart now.......is there a program like sisoft Sandra or something that will tell me what chip I have so I will know what drivers to download ???

Thank you for any info you can give me about this card and things I can
do to help it, and I really looked for a long time on craigslist and ebay before I finally found one in the USA and not England, where they wanted 32 dollars just to ship it to the USA. I was not going to pay 100 bucks for a used card !!!! My card was new in the box for 52 bucks, and I know they were going for 35 when they came out. I cant figure out why they would stop making these as they really bring new life to older MB's like mine .......... AHHHHH, thats why !!! They want me to BUY a new MB !!!

I'm glad someone found the card useful.

It's OK with USB3 but SATA6 is a joke on the purchaser.

Have to tried this to remove the icon?

They only made one model of the U3S6 and the last update was 2010.

Here's a link for the drivers but you'll need to put your OS in the drop-box.

PS...I also have a ASUS P6T and SSD performance is much better with the Intel SATA2 ports.

The 4K and 4K-64Thrd results (NOT Seq read/write) are what you want to look at.

Run AS-SSD and check the results.
