Its HUGE . I've read reviews saying upto 11*C less than stock on an Intel P4E. beating out even the Thermalright XP-120 and cheap watercooling.

I'm definitely getting one .

1) Who cares what it looks like if it cools well? It doesnt look SO bad that you wouldnt want it IMO.
2) Around 600g IIRC, not much.
3) 35 quid, around $55-60USD, not much more than an XP-120 for more performance.

Now to the productive comment. With these humongous hsf's, I've heard stories about it not fitting easily (PSU may be too close). Also, I wonder if the weight may produce a non-flush contact with the cpu. Just some questions you should consider.

yeah i saw a review of these a while back. i like the dual fans, you don't see that much on heatsinks. i heard they had problems fitting on some motherboards with the ram in the 1st slot though

Nope, you're not alone...

As for the price, you can get one of several, officially rated "kick ass" (or equally rated) heatsinks from other companies (like thermalright) for LESS money. Look here to see what I mean... Or even here for more options. I'm about to install one of the SLK-948U heatsinks, once the new 90mm fan arrives (54CFM, 20-21 db) early in the week.

Also, that asus thing is not "around 600g" it's a hell of a lot closer to 700g for weight (680g to be exact). even the SLK-948u (which is a huge hunk of copper) isn't that heavy (635g without a fan) nor is the SP-120 (rated at 370g).

Personally, I've used a similar heatsink/fan to that before. I wasn't impressed with it, since it cooled the same with the fan at any speed. If you have a fan that spins at different rates, you would think that the slower speed would provide less cooling than the higher. Not so, which makes it pointless.

Also, I think asus is trying to get into too many sidelines with this product. They should stick with what they've proven they know (at least to other people, I've seen their crap and won't use it).

I bought an ASUS STAR ICE 3 days ago for my AMD643200 S939

1 - It is heavy but it works we'll , i had no problem with no room in my case , and my case is a Lian Li PC-7 [ not the biggest of PC cases ]
2 - Theres no problem with the Heatsink not being flush with the CPU die , it has a VERY secure mechanism .
3 - This heatsink fits Socket A,754 939,S478,775 so it could save you money when upgrading CPU .
4 - From all the heatsinks ive had this is 1 of the quietest at normal operation .
5 - I had my AMD643200 Overclocked to 2500MHz @ vCore 1.65 44/45 Idle 62/65 Load
With this heatsink my temps are 32/34 Idle 48/50 Full Load


Overall i think its the best performance ive ever had from any Aircooling heatsink

#1 it is a "me-too" design
#2 proprietary fan, people who don't like Zalman 7000 series because of this won't like this unit

Looks freaky funny to me. If only the fan and enclosure was sold separately from the heatsink... have some stupid ideas, LOL.
