asus sli deluxe sound broke?

i isntalled a dvd drive. everythingw as working but the sound went really quiet i can almost not hear it. the volume controll is all the way up everything should be right but its just like barekly hearable and it never was like this before. i tested with other speakers and same thing. what should i do?
 
no suggestions? please i really wanna watch a movie its soooo quiet all of the sudden i turned everything to max and i can barely hear it even when i put my ear on the speakers
 
Are you using Windows? Go to device manager, look for the dvd player, see what the volume is set at.

its an asus sli deluxe with a nec 3520 dvd rw and logitech speakers
i added a nec dvd drive 5800c i believe the sound was fine before i added it everything too quiet now mp3s
the windows start up sound. the asus utility says the speakers arent plugged in properly but they are i rechecked 50 times and its so damn quiet when before i had to keep everything low to not piss my neighbors off. im so confused. did i somehoe break my motherboard or the sound part of it? the sound is fine just way too quiet tho so i dunno.
 
try to see if digital audio option is enabled, or check if your audio cable from dvd drive to motherboard is firmly connected.
 
ok its not the audio cable i dont use one. windows doesnt need it and my files are on hdd anyway. but the scary thing now is that if i set it to 4 channel sound and plug the speakers in the rear (gray socket) i have normal volume?????

did i somehoe break my front/normal line out???? thesound is still there but the asus tool says thespeakers arent connected properly and the volume is barely hearable tho quality is fine. any ideas? im not smart enough to figure this one out. should i rma or what?
 
the 4 channel plug in rear only fixes my problems for mp3s and videos but when i wanna play age of empires 2 tc i dont get any sound like this 🙁
 
onboard sound. the weirdest is after like 50 reboots its now working again tho i didnt change anything this board makes me crazy. that one time it didnt detect my dvd drive then i replugged it and still nothing now after 4 days i was bored and built it back in now it detects it. now this withthe sound. this board has more mood swings than an italian with pms.............

Have you tried new drivers for chipset?
