Asus server MB killing cmos battery.

The factory battery was old and when I had a power failure I lost my cmos setting. No wonder the battery was reading 0.46vdc.

So I installed a new battery reading 3.23vdc, and a week later had another power failure, lost settings again. Battery dead again. What could be the problem?

Its an old MB from 2006 but it is in server duty and durable.

Maybe the new battery was just crap. I've seen it happen with brand-new batteries (though not CR2032s).
Considering the cost of a new one, I'd try it.

Are you replacing with exactly what the motherboard manual specifies for the battery?
Also: be sure it's installed correctly. Put it in backwards, and you'd probably get what you describe.
Could also be a faulty PSU. But who knows?

That is a fairly old mobo: bad caps?

Caps are all factory japan nichicon brand. These are not prone to leak and all look great. Battery had a use by 2022 date. It calls for a CR2032 and I did put it in the right way. I tried another, and when the next power failure occurs I will know if it works.

Or you could test it right now by unplugging the computer and seeing what happens. PSU off switch works as well.
