actually a 32nm Quadcore westermere-EP would probably rape a 980X even.

Because the westmere-EP has a better memory controller, and is also a quadcore.

SuperPI will be focused on single thread performance.. and with that nothing will touch a 32nm quadcore.

Which proves the pointless meaning of the bench...

Yes I have a W3520 at 4.5 that is sub 9 in superpi beating out my 980 that does mid 9's. (this sounds like gear head talk about quarter mile times!)

The 980 will whip the llama's hindpart when compared to encoding and other multiple core benchmarks, however.

Won't Westmere have the same cache penalty as Gulftown though? Superpi seems to like lower latency too. 4GHz UNcore helps there as well. 😉

You two should enter the contest.

I'd help cheer ya'll on, but I doubt I look cute in a cheerleader skirt.

I do have an idea (which would be equally or even more offensive yet would not breach forum "rules") but I really can't bring myself to it.

Sorry for the off-topic comment.

as i said i am disqualified.

thats cuz ive seen what a 32nm 12meg cache 26x multi X5677 can do when its unleashed.

Unfortunately the one sitting here is an ES. 😀

Meh Lorpi lemme remind you what this monster is capable of:
Q3QT32nmquadcore.jpg

Im sorry thats with only 1.344vcore, almost breaking sub 9 on air /w lax memory timings btw.
Give me 1.5-1.6 on DICE with my classy + a 26multi cpu... i think you understand my statement now.

😀

Oh lucky for you guys tho, that all these 32nm quadcores cpu's are probably in SR-2's. 😛
And they wont clock as well, when you have 2 of them working together.

Meaning 1 cpu will always hold you back.

Ok some tips for you guys who really want to try:

1. Use only 1 stick of ram.
2. You want the tightest timings possible. Cas 6 ram will rock in something like this.
3. You might want to disable HT, and go for the fastest single core clock.

Disable HT, your system doesnt need to be rock solid to run a super pi 1m and screen capture it.

So you want to go as fast as possible.

This is a cheetah race.. not an endurance or stability race.

its anyones game. these scores can be beaten if you try!! 😀

plus we are giving away swag every day. and this is not just for the prizes but to experience the awesomeness at quakecon, and get some additional asus connections 😱

aigo, looks like you would be in the lead at present.

let's focus on the great PR that asus deserves for this. they're spending $15k and even have employees checking out our forums to see how the contest is received. that's kudos x2 in my book.

as i said i am disqualified.

I knew that from your previous post. I was hoping you'd dosh out for a system that adhered to the rules.

With your knowledge, I would have guessed that you would jump at the chance to compete against the best of the best and give them a run for it.

I guess not.

LOL...

Nah.. i am actually still a little fish in a wide ocean when it comes to Overclocking competitions.

Actually im a remora who clings onto sharks. 😀
My friends being sharks..

My first and foremost forte is cooling / moding / water design.

@ Brain... these are THE FIRST board blocks for an i7 board. 😀
And i used your P6T-DLX to do it. 🙂
Im actually one of the reasons why vendors started doing board blocks. 😛

that's ok, it's not really a thread until something even more offensive comes up, so here goes:

intel is like hitler's germany to amd's poland. they've invaded, taken over, and are looking for newer, juicier targets.

edit: whoops, back on topic. I have a p6t, maybe I'll give it a try. I'll turn my case fans on my antec 900 up to HIGH, and I should get sub 8 seconds, right? did I mention that I have an ultra 120 extreme???

Update to the contest!

Starting 7/29/10 - 8/5/10 we will randomly draw a lucky submitter everyday of their choice of an ROG thermos, ROG t-shirt, or ROG mousepad.

Current Rankings: Benchmark Super Pi 1M

#1 Splave 8sec 484ms

#2 AnthonyLackey 8sec 986ms

#3 RayW 9sec 640ms

#4 OregonSlacker 10sec 140ms

#5 ICEBOB 28sec 141ms

Major props to ICEBOB for entering the competition. I would really like to know what he used to put up a time that slow; my Sempron 140 can do Pi 1m in about 19s when it's feeling spry. 28 seconds is about what my x2-3600+ will do at 3.2 ghz.

#1 Splave 8sec 484ms

RUBY~ i know you can beat this on your W3520 (retail) the cherry one, which u use to piss me off all the time. 🙂
Especially if its just for a dinky little superpi 1m run, and not a 32m run.

GOGOGOGOGOGOGO~~~

Dude i know i can on my 980X with a few more memory tweeks.
