One of the Asus support guys is around the console and mobile forum a decent amount, you can ask him if it is OK(his forum title is Asus Support, kind of gives him away ;) ).

Do an advanced RMA and swap the cooler.
That was an interesting proposal, but you never know if they'll give you the *exact* same model, then your SOL. :)

Update to the situation.
Wow, I just got the go ahead to RMA an ASUS card without a cooler!

I'm just amazed that Asus would consider it, it's just way beyond my wildest expectations!

I'll have to update when I finally get it done to make sure everyone is on the same page and it doesn't get rejected halfway through. *fingers crossed*

Ok, I updated the OP.

I'm still just fried about this one. What a f&*(%& waste of time.

Asus just lost a customer. I buy a lot of stuff for both myself and friends and family. I will avoid them, their customer service sucks so why bother if MSI, EVGA, Gigabyte etc. are as good in the major components.

That's alot of jumping around and text to figure out what happened.

So in the end, they would only fix it for 310.00 , but then offered to do it for 70.00 ?
And you figure it's not worth it. I had to look again at the first post. For a 7950, wouldn't 70.00 be worth it?
That's where your at?

Not quite, if they had offered to RMA it for $70 I could have done it being I didn't have a cooler, but they wanted $240. Then they just shipped the card back to me without even bothering to communicate their intention.

--------------------------------
Basically what happened in a nutshell.
--------------------------------

Basically I made an RMA with the promise I don't need the original cooler (verified 3 times via. phone, chat, online support request).

After I sent the card in they said I have to pay $310 because the fan is missing. When I said they had promised to replace it without the original cooler they then offered to replace it for $240.

I called to a manager and had to wait 3 hrs on hold. Manager promised to take care of the RMA, I showed him one of the support requests where they clearly state I don't need the cooler. He doesn't tell me anything more.

Then they just ignore everything and shipped me back my original card saying I need the cooler.

tldr:

Basically Asus just assured me it's fine to RMA the card without the cooler and then decided to back out of it.

I RMA'd an HD 7750 to Asus last month. (Lock ups in game and a white screen) I got the RMA approval from Asus, sent it out at my expense. Got an email that the ticket was resolved and a tracking number for the replacement card. Received my old card back in new packaging ... no repair notes at all. Put it in my computer and it still freezes and white screens... bone heads.
