What do you guys think of the 39 inch 4k VA panel asus displayed at computex? I'm almost more excited by that panel since VA general does have single digit response times and better contrast ratios than IPS - the downside being that VA in the past was limited to 1080p. Apparently not anymore though! Should be VERY interesting - the VA panel is said to be even cheaper than the 32 inch IPS model as well.

39 is too big to game with imo. You'd need to sit too far back, 30" was even an adjustment for me.

Price is a disappointing on this Asus. I'm not comfortable buying anything for $4K from Asus. Their mobos are great, but I'd want to hear some really great things about the monitor, build quality and experiences with it before chancing it.

As mentioned earlier in the thread I'd be willing to pay that much if it was coming from Dell.

I think he confused the Sharp 4K monitor with the Seiki 4K TV. The Seiki doesn't have display port. The Sharp does.

Actually, people were complaining about the Sharp monitor not being able to do 60Hz at 4K and they had to run it in Infinity mode on AMD cards in order to achieve. But this brought its own set of problems.

I'm not sure what the specific issue with the Sharp model is, if it exists - yet DP 1.2 has no issues (bandwidth wise) with 60hz at 4k2 resolution, so if there's any such issue with the Sharp model - it's likely related to their implementation or panel electronics.

Furthermore, Asus specifically states that 60hz works via displayport 1.2 and they actually demoed both units at computex running 60hz and powered by nvidia video cards. So the asus is obviously doing a proper displayport implementation with the panel electronics to drive 60hz. Perhaps Sharp isn't - that would be hardly surprising since Sharp does not typically release monitors geared towards PC users.

Doubtful as every 4K panel I have read specs on has never been TN. So far the only 120hz monitors out there are TN panels as well. I'd be more interested in a 120hz 2560x1600 IPS than a 60hz 4K to be honest. As long as 120hz is only on TN it's just not worth using.

120hz will never take off with 4k on the horizon.

Games are made with 60 FPS in mind and GPU's are too.

CPU's cant handle 120fps either in new games.

Basically 120hz will never be anything other than a niche product for games that arent very demanding.

Did you search to find out exactly what the 60Hz issue is with 4K and display port before posting?

DP 1.2 does a lot of things, one of them is "Multi Stream Transport" which is essentially connecting to multiple monitors via one cable. In this case, the Sharp PN-K321 does 4k@60hz with a MST connection if you use the DP port. That means the screen shows up as two 1920x2160@60hz screens to your computer, hence the issues with Nvidia because they (currently) don't support 2 monitor surround. I've seen speculation elsewhere that this is because Sharp used controllers that don't support 3840x2160@60hz and that such controllers are hard to come by, if they even exist at all.

So I would expect the PQ321 to operate in the same way... if it actually supports 3840x2160@60hz without using MST, while STILL supporting the split screen feature over dual HDMI, that would make it a superior implementation over the Sharp version in every way and very desirable indeed, because it would be the first monitor I've ever heard of to have 4k@60hz without split screening of some type.

If that's accurate it's very exciting indeed. $4k is expensive, sure, but I think people who are expecting <$1000 30" 4k displays within a year are dreaming. It took a very long time for the price of 27" monitors to drop that far, let alone 30" ones. I wouldn't be surprised if we see some at $2-3k next year, but I wouldn't hold my breath for $1k. The market for these extreme resolution desktop monitors just isn't that big.

Preorders are up on amazon for this panel, anyone else go for one ? I bit and put in a pre-order, availability on the 16th of this month, so I have some time to mull it over and cancel it if I change my mind.

I'd really like to get a 4K screen from Dell but it doesn't seem to be in the cards any time soon so I went for one of these. Can't resist 4K goodness. The PPI is amazing.

It depends. First off, you don't have to max everything out - when you look at gaming benchmarks, websites typically ONLY do them with the games at maximum quality settings - People say the same thing regarding 2560x1600 panels, because you look at benchmarks of Crysis 3 maxed out and you'll get something silly like 20 fps at 2560x1600. But you do not have to max everything out. In fact, I play at the high setting with FXAA in crysis 3 on a single 780, and my framerate is pretty much always 60. And the game looks the very same as it does at very high - and i've taken screenshots to compare.

I'm certain Titan SLI could be a usable solution at 4k.....you obviously can't max every game out, however. Titan SLI is obviously a lot of GPU power, out of the reach of the average user. But I really don't think you need 4 Titan's to make 4k gaming usable. Again, you never have to max games out - if you maxed every game out in surround, you would quickly find that nearly no games are playable. Yet people make it work but lowering 2-3 settings. The same principle would apply at 4k - lower 2-3 settings and use FXAA instead of MSAA.

Well you can overclock it to 70hz like I did. I did my dads sammy LED and it worked hes on 70hz according to the monitor not software. In mon controls youll see 70hz ,,,,, Also this doesnt work with LG 24" 2ms... anyhow

piece of cake, go to your nv panel custom resolutions, and change the 60 to 70 , apply , even if you go inside your moniters setting it will say 70hz ,,,,,....... Im @ 1ms, this monitor is going to be 7ms at least,, so FPS with vsync on , the mouse will be laggy and motion blur and ghosting,,, One day LED monitors will be 1ms,,, and today is not the day lol,,,,,, 1ms 70hz I love it! Very pleased after coming from 10 years usage of the FW900..gl

Dunno...I can turn of AA and not have a problem but if it's still not 60fps with $2,000 in GPUs...i'd have a problem lol

About performance, there is one game that drops under 60fps at 1600p with my setup; metro ll with ssaa. I think I can do most games maxed or with the most punishing feature off. For example metro ll without ssaa and Crysis 3 with no AA etc.

If it is real bad, maybe I will get another Titan.

Yeah it's definitely steep. I've researched that IGZO panel used and it's a very high quality panel. The PPI to deliver that resolution in that size is really insane. Should be some incredible IQ.

Asus actually claims a zero bright pixel guarantee on the screen, but I also have found Asus support to be abysmal. I can use the 30 days of Amazon no hassle returns to make sure there are no bright or dead pixels, no buzzing noises, no issues with 60hz 4K, no backlight bleed and having that amount of time to make sure no issues develop with use.

There should be cheaper 4K monitors coming shortly, but not ones that are using the IGZO panel.

How does IGZO compare to IPS? One thing that excites about the upcoming AMVA 4k panels is that VA typically has vastly better black levels and contrast than IPS. Don't get me wrong, I love IPS and would take that anyday over a TN Panel, but I do have to admit that the black levels aren't quite as good as VA. The only bad thing about VA is that they're limited to 1080p for the time being. Only unfortunate thing is that the AMVA 4k panels aren't being released until 2014. Bummer.

Anyway, i'm also somewhat leery about asus monitors. I love their motherboards and GPUs, but monitors...ehh...their RMA and return process certainly isn't up to the quality that Dell has.....
