ASUS P9X79 Deluxe DIPM Driver Is Missing?

Good Evening Everyone,

I finally sprang for a new build consisting of an ASUS P9X79 Deluxe board, an Intel i7-3930 hex-core, 32GB of 2133 Memory, and an Intel 520 (Cherryville) 240GB SSD. The rig runs just fine @ a modest 4500MHz OC. However, the Intel SSD Toolbox software (Ver. 3.03) cannot communicate with the Intel 520 SSD due to a supposed lack of a DIPM driver (according to the Toolbox software). I have the onboard Intel SATA controller set to RAID, and have a pair of mechanical drives in a RAID 1 array on Ports 2 & 3. Ports 0 & 1 are the 6GB SATA Ports where the SSD and aother drive is attached (non-RAID), and Ports 4 & 5 are where the optical drives are attached.

I have installed the latest SATA drivers from the ASUS web site (the ones directly from Intel interestingly won't install), and there seems to be something associated with DIPM that is missing. Therefore the SSD Optimizing function of the Toolbox software won't run, and neither will the scheduling software to assure a periodic TRIM adjustment.

If anyone has some solid information or insight into what the heck is going on here, I'd certainly like to hear about it. Thanks, and best regards to everyone. TheBeagle

Personally I would suspect the error message has to do with your controller setting in bios. Which is likely set to raid since you have your mechanical drives in a raid (doesn't matter that the SSD is not part of the array).

You can set the mode on the ASMedia 6GB ports seperately from the Intel controller. These would be the bottom (I believe they are grey) ports. That also likely have a sticker on them in regards to Asus SSD caching.

You could set that controller to AHCI and plug your SSD in there.. to see if the options in toolbox you wish to use now work.

At least this is the best I could come up with after poking around the Intel community forums. I have an Asus P9X79 Pro which is why I'm familiar with the controllers on the board (and the fact you can set the mode on the 2 grey ports seperately from the Intel ports). However, I do not own any Intel SSD's.

go back about a month and a half in this forum, within another x79 topic and look for the pdf link detailing RSTe errata. as i recall your intel toolbox issue is in there.

UPDATE: Thanks to everyone who responded. Mr. DW, your suggestion appears to solve the problem. I removed the two mechanical SATA drives from the Intel ports and reconfigured the on-board controller to AHCI. That "solved" the Intel Toolbox software problem, and the system fully sees the 520 SSD in the Toolbox. I then copied off all the data on the previous RAID 1 array drives to a temporary third drive, and reconfigured those drives in a new RAID 1 array on the twin Marvell Ports (bottom grey ones).

Interestingly, the ASUS specification literature for the P9X79 Deluxe board does NOT specify that those Marvell Ports have RAID 0 or 1 capability. However, buried in the end of the User's Manual there is a complete discussion of how to create and implement a RAID array on those Ports. Had I realized that somewhat hidden capability, I could have saved myself some time and trouble in finalizing this build.

In any event, the rig is running smoothly at 4.5GHz, and the core temps are in the low to mid 40s. All in all, I'm pleased with the result. Best regards to everyone! TheBeagle
