Hardware used:
Ivy Bridge 3570k
Sandy Bridge 2300 i5
Crucial 1333 cl9 v 1.5 2x2GB
Asus P8P67-M Pro

What I have done:
1. I installed the IB into motherboard and the machine would not post at all.
2. Noticed BIOS was old so installed the SB, machine posted and I flashed to latest BIOS which Asus says supports IB 22nm chips. Had some trouble with the mob posting after flash but flashing twice (as Asus recommends!) And resetting CMOS cleared the problem.
3. Reinstalled IB and machine posted on first try, new CPU detected pressed F1 for setup and then a blank screen. I did see it was correctly detected so all looked well, it also had all the ram showing. I have tried resetting the BIOS, memory OK! Checks and rebooted quite a few times with power off, resets etc. Board just won't post again.

Any ideas?

after updating BIOS, remove power completely for a few minutes (pull AC cord, press power button)

No its not a B3. Although according to Asus it doesn't need to be, Ivy Bridge is supported from all PCB formats and bios 3602 upwards. I flashed 3604 (latest)

I left it off all night with cord out and still nothing.

I believe Asus is talking about all PCB versions of the B3 revision, not all PCB versions prior to the B3 revision. You may indeed be out of luck.

I won the board at an Asus overclocking competition last year. Figured I might be able to get IB running on it to save a few bob but never mind I'll order a Z77 board instead.

Usually. Turn on PSU, then take out cord for 10 to 15 seconds. put it back in,, make sure all devices are properly installed and press PSU power button.. then power up and see if you get beep and post. something is wrong, go stock for now if you can.

Finally got a Z77X-D3H through today and started it up with the 3570K. Nothing, no post. Not having a speaker in the case I used a Multimeter and found that it was giving off 5 short beeps (2V to 2.7V swings on AC so I hope that is what it meant!) and that seems to translate to processor failure.

Sigh

So I installed the SB 2300 and that boots fine and the machine is now up and running.

So all along its been the processor. The fact it survived 15 seconds in the previous motherboard either tells me the older board killed it or it was faulty on arrival. I think this is the first time I have ever had a bad CPU, motherboards and RAM are faulty all the time but the actual CPU is a new one on me. RMAing.

just wondering if its because you tried to run the IB CPU on incompatible chipset (B2)

Edit:
I might also point out that no pre B3 mobo will flash to IB bios
They had compatible bios avail up to date of recall - no further

I guess its too late now but it would have been nice to see A CPUID screenie of the motherboard tab for the ASUS mobo
