ASUS P7P55D-E PRO / Intel P55 Express - TRIM support?

I'm not 100% sure whether motherboard chipset support of the TRIM command is required, so I guess I'm asking this question from either way around.

- edit - One google result suggests that I would be better off using Intel's SATA 3Gbps ports on this board (supporting TRIM) rather than the Marvell 6Gbps ports (not supporting TRIM).

I'm still using P55 and trim is working for me, at least on the Intel ports.

I have read previously trim didn't function properly on marvell controllers or at least the older models.
