I installed my new machine a few days ago, and have set up most of my software. However I relaised I had not installed ahci drivers (my Sata raptor 150gb and sata2 Seagate 7200.10 were in ide enhanced mode).

I found a link where there were some instructions for installing the ahci drivers after installation of windows, and i now have the drives set to ahci in the bios and i can se ich7 Ultra ATA & SATA AHCI controllers in device manager. However the sata controller and the drives themselves in device manager dont give me the option anywhere to turn on NCQ.

I have the sinking feeling that i screwed up big time and that I won't get the full performance benefit of my drives without a reinstall.

Can anyone tell me what the impact of this situation is? Is it worth a reinstall and re-doing hours of setup....?

Did you ever figure out or resolve this? I just built my new system (very similar to yours) and am about to format my drive and install Windows. I'm first in the BIOS setting some options and am wondering if I should set AHCI now or wait until after I install XP?

I'm in the same boat as you guys. JUST installed XP on the new machine and ran across the AHCI information. DOH!
