Asus P5Q Deluxe worth the money over P5Q Pro?

I know this has been asked a million times, but with the deals going on for the P5Q Pro, means that the Deluxe now costs almost double that of the Pro. Is it worth the money? I do not plan to crossfire. The almost $100 in savings can be applied to a better video card.

The Deluxe however does have a better board layout and supposedly overclocks better. Any current thoughts?

I was looking for the same exact info. I do not plan to crossfire. The deluxe also has 16 phase power and it looks like better cooling. I also have an auzentech prelude soundcard so audio is not a factor for me.

I would be more inclined to just put the $100 difference into a better video card. The Pro doesn't exactly suck at overclocking.

The layout factor is pretty subjective. I wouldn't be able to fit all my PCI cards on the Deluxe because my video card uses up 4 slots due to the aftermarket cooler.

The PRO vs DELUXE debate boils down to whether you will miss the added on board goodies that the DELUXE offers. Overclocking performance and bandwidth will be slightly better with the DELUXE but day to day tasks will not really see any difference unless you are a bleeding edge tweaker & media encoding/decoding is your main activities. I would save the $100 if it were up to me.

Put the money toward the better video card if $ is a concern; the P5Q Pro still OCs like mad.

I had two of three P5Q Pros turn out defective and went with the Deluxe version. However, since my builds < one month ago, the number of reviews at NE for the Pro model have more than tripled and this board is selling like crazy. The Deluxe was overkill for me. Comes with additional cables, heatsink fan (useless if actively cooling CPU etc. - something I want to follow-up on as I have not used it based on instructions/recommendations from Asus). If I had to do it over again, I would consider the Pro, more so at the current price. Several folks are happy with the capabilities of the Pro model, including here.

For $100 less it sounds like the Pro is the one to get. NE no longer has it for $99 with rebate. It is now $119 after rebate. Zip Zoom has it for $99 but it is out of stock. I should have picked it up when it was $99. Thanks guys for the info.

I'm still trying to decide between the two boards. Does the P5Q Deluxe have overclocking advantages? What about room for tower hsfs?

The Deluxe does have some extra bells and whistles. As for helping with OC'ing, I'm skeptical that there's that much of a difference. The split on here seems to be in the favor of the Pro

You may have some issues with big coolers due to the heatsinks on the Deluxe. I have an AC Freezer 7 Pro on mine and it was quite a tight squeeze - I ended up mounting the fan bracket about three fins higher than normal on that cooler so it would clear the NB heatsink fins

Take the middle ground, get the P5Q-E, it has the similar layout as Deluxe. The Pro model is quite a bit different from Dx or E model.

for you OP, i would take either the P5Q-E or the Pro. the deluxe is just not worth it in your case (for me the deluxe was worth it was because i needed some of those extra features).
