Well I finally got it working...turns out the power supply was under powered. Surprising because its a 430w but after talking to the guy from ABIT, we determined that the power was definately the issue. So I ran to Fry's, picked up the ANTEC NeoPower 480, and wahlah, it worked. I have decided to go with the ASUS board, although I liked the uGuru monitor with the ABIT board, I think I will need the extra PCI slot that the ASUS has. I am currently installing Windows. More to come later.

C4D: Glad you got it working. I wondered about the power supply; but wouldn't have guessed 430W was not enough. The more drives; both optical and HDD' etc you hook up; the more power they eat up. I assume that the AGP card you are using is the power HOG.
The TT Jungle 512 is slightly larger. The heatsink and mounts are the same identical as the Intel heatsink; but the fan frame is slightly larger; but it is high enough for clearance over the cap's and the northbridge. The top left corner by the 2x2 power plug is a tight fit and tough to get anchored. When you set the heatsink locks, do the top left first; Or better still, put it on with the mobo out of the case. I'm using an Antec Sonata case, and I can't hear any notable difference in the sound from the larger and higher rpm TT fan. The advertized speed and noise for the TT is 3600rpm and 21 to 43db. Mine is turning 3800 average, no clue as to db levels.. RPM Seems to vary with temp. The fan appears to speed up when temps go up and slow down as the temp drops. Currently (according to the readouts of AIBooster) I'm OC'd 10% @ 3.3ghz; CPU temp 43*C; Chassis temp 30*C; CPU fan 3835rpm; Chassis fan (Vantec Stealth) is 1454rpm; and both Hyperthreads @100% running Seti@home work units. Over 24 hours at 10% OC'g and no glitches so far. I'll try another higher setting soon and see if it stays stable and cool. Now you're back to the P5P800 ... I hope you will have better luck getting it to work this time; and I'm sure you'll be happy with it.

Update:
C4D; after my last post about midnight (PDT) I bumped up to 15% OC'g and it's been holding steady at 3.451ghz. CPU temps vary between 45*C & 47*C, & CPU fan varing 3835 to 3880rpm. I don't recall reading anything about CPU temp control via fan speed, but this board must have it.
C4D : How goes it with you and the P5P800 ??

HOLA,
been a bit since I posted: my life is too busy. Getting married in a couple weeks so that is crazy. Anyway, I found the Jungle512 at my local fry's for $25!! So I bought it before they realized i was robbing them :) !! I hadn't run the machine too much with the Intel heatsink and fan so I can't compare too much but I do know that with the Intel HS, it was idling @ around 35-37. Now, it idles at 30-31. Also, I have played Counter Strike Source for a few hours and the temp never got above 42! That looks pretty good. Since you been have good luck with the OCing, I think I'll start testing that now. But holy cow, that Jungle512 is freakin loud! I read the reviews on Newegg and many mentioned that i wasn't very quite but I didn't expect it to be as loud as it is. THe intel HS and fan weren't the quietest thing in the world but definately significantly quieter than this thing. Oh well, we'll see if it bothers me over time. Anyhow, hope all is going well with you!
Later.

C4D: Glad to hear of your success. I really didn't hear much difference in the fan noises. I'm using an Antec Sonata case which is supposed to be a quiet case; and maybe these old ears are not as sharp as they once were. I'm still OC'd at 15% (3.4510) and stable. I did try 20% but I got flaky results. It actually didn't want to stay at 20% and kept dropping back to no OC'g, but at 15 % it stays stable; so I'm finished experimenting and I'll leave it there. I'm really impressed with this board and the Intel CPU. I'm not into the gaming deal, so can't compare notes with you in that respect. My other 3 machines are running AMD's; but I may stay with Intels and ASUS in the future. As for the noise again; which trade off is best ... low noise and warm CPU temps; or cooler temps and some noise. ?? If you're into games and high CPU usage, you'll undoubtedly prefer the cooler CPU temps. Throw some more db's out of your speakers and drown out the fans. LOL. Your user name interests me. Are you in aviation; like maybe air traffic control ??
Oh yeah... Congrats on the marriage. After the honeymoon; your next task will be to put another PC together for your wife! Sharing a PC is like sharing the TV remote! Get her her own unit.
It is later... much later. Take care.. enjoy the honeymoon!

NQaN: Thanks for the well wishes.
Fortunately, i have an awesome desktop-replacement laptop that I got in August last year so one way or the other, I will have a sweet rig to use! I have the Sager 8790: P4 Prescott 3.4G, 1G RAM, 60G 7200 Hitachi Travelstar, built-in bluetooth and wireless, ATI mobility Radeon 9700 256mb! I paid $2700 from powernotebooks.com. I love it.
I tried OCing the 630 last night and I set it to 5% and went up to 3.15 for a few minutes, then it dropped back down to 3.00. I don't know why it dropped back down. I'm going to play with it tonight to see what that was all about and I'll probably bump it up to 10%.
My noise issues are probably affected by the case. I'm using the Antec SLK3000-B. It's a nice case, but i'm looking at maybe getting a lian li aluminum case. Ever used a lian li case? Any advice? I want a very cool (temperature) case without a door on the front because I hate having to open doors when I want to access my drives or usb ports. I also want something black because black is the best looking.
When gaming, lower temps are definately better than quieter pc noise and like you said, I just turn up my sound system and annoy all my neighbors:), or put on headphones...
Yes, my name is aviation related. Actually, I am a private pilot. I fly a small single-engine airplane in my spare time. It is so much fun.

C4D:
My PC1 is in a Lian Li 6070 Silent case. Aluminum with a door, and with enough fans to cool a boiler room, it is still very quiet. It is a good silent case but has lousy air flow, hence the multiple fans. Also very pricey and doesn't come with a power supply; but then again, you already have a good one now! The Antec Sonata case is black and the door is easily removed; plus it's half the price of the LL6070 !
If you are using the AI NOS, you need something like Seti@home running on at least one thread to have it OC. If there is no work for the CPU, the NOS isn't required and it will settle back to default speed. There is another window to set default speeds and presets & speeds. second tab in from the left,(blue arrow), just below the hyperthread bargraphs. You can use that to set a permanent OC.
I was a radar tech in the air force for 10 years and kinda figured your Clear4Dep might be 'cleared for departure'; interesting choice, I see the relationship.

Hi guys,
I hope I found an answer for my problem. Same as clear4dep had with p5p800 mobo with3.2.ghz cpu socket 775.using 350W PS. I also Tried swapping everything it's possible to swap with my home pc. (PS 450W, RAM, Video card...) Still nothing .The led on MB is ON, cpu fan is spinning, but nosing else. no monitor output, no beeps. Im going to pick up a new powerfull PS and see if you were right. If that is the case You guys RULE!!

p.s.
2 clear4dep - Congrad's

P.S.s
does the new PS have to be with 24 pin connector?

Reket21: Either will work ; (20 or 24) for ease of use and for the future; get a 24 pin. If you are using a AGP card with a big fan on it; you probably need a bigger PS. I 've read a few reviews on the newer mobo's with OC'g and heavy duty vid cards; that needed 500+ watts to have them run stable.! I'm getting away with only 380 W, but I'm not running multiple HDD's or Optical drives, and my vid card (ATI 9250) has no fan.
Good luck

Hello
I had the same power problem with this Asus Board. It would be nice for Asus to state a warning to this power related question in the manual.

Did anyone had a network problem with this bord. I cant seem to get XP to recognize the marvel miniport drivers. I've tried all the asus updates and ... still nothing.
Xp recognises the adapter as a ethernet card... but that's it...
I'm now using a diferent network card. But I relly would like to get the board's own adapter to work.

By the way... My intel p4 3.0 cpu its working at the moment at 3.6 with a medium temperature of 55º. Although I'm not running any aplications or games.
And its perfectly stable.
With N.O.S I lost the audio at 15% and gone to normal after disable NOS in the BIOS.
Next time i'll try push it yo 30º with ai boster.
But I still don't know the difference between these 2 apps.

Sorry for my bad english
Thanks

Condelp: I think the difference is with NOS it is only boosting or OC'g as needed. If you are doing something that is CPU intensive, it will boost. If idling there is no boost. The other settings or presets will hold the OC'g on even if you are not processing anything.
I didn't have any problem with the onboard Marvel LAN drivers. they are on the mobo CD-ROM. Also I think there is a WIndows update that has new drivers for that LAN. But ASUS website should have the most recent drivers for that LAN
go to this link and scroll down until you get to Marvel version: 7.14.1.3

http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us

You will have to fill in the product = motherboard
series = Socket 775
model - p5p800
search
clik 'drivers' tab and scroll down to Marvel

Check your BIOS; you may have the onboard LAN 'disabled' see page 4-24 of user guide. It is normally enabled by default; but maybe it got switched off.

Yep. I've already done waht u said.
Motherboard enabled, the drivers for marvel dont even show up in the cd menu (guess it only shows when the system can recognize the drivers).

Drivers that I can see on the cd menu:
- intel chipset inf update program
- SoundMax Audio Driver and application
(thats it) -> and yes the cd is fine (new). and did also tried in another drive.

So I downloaded the drivers... it does install but wont to nothing. xp wont recognise this driver, or something happened to the motherbord when I used de 400w power supply and went blank. because, before that, the xp did recognized and installed the network.

I least I have audio. Maybe it burned up. (I'm out of ideas)

Thanks

Hi all. I just bought a Asus p5p800 and ran into a slight problem. It seems the board likes to shut off the power supply after a few seconds. I've tried two different power supplies (one is a 500W Antec SmartPower 2.0. I'm using a P5 3.2 Ghz processor and 1 gig of memory (in one chip/board). The board/power supply varies as to how long it takes to power off again, but it's never long enough to boot windows completely and is usually too short to get thru the bios setup.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

TIA.

Check to see if your heatsink is mounted correctly. The mounting push pins make a light click when part way installed, but a much louder click when fully pushed to full extent. You may be experiencing overheating and then autoshutdown to save the CPU.

Maybe a stuppid question....
Do I need to have aibooster activated on xp to work.
Or can I shut down the aplication... while it runs on background?
I've already enabled in the Bios.

On the right edge of the GUI, in the circles, is a - (minus sign) click on that to minimize and it will reside in the taskbar; and go on doing its thing behind the scenes. When you want to check or change something just click the icon in the taskbar.

I'm leaning towards the Asus P5P800 right now, with a 3.2Ghz CPU. Looking in the pictures on Newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813131511
It looks like it has very few cables come with it. Is the picture ok? Or does it miss a few cables?
Just for comparison, look at this motherboard, which has more of the thin dark cables (SATA?), and two more cables (the ones on the left with one end black and one end larger and white), and the cable that ends with a small metal sheet.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813131510#DetailSpecs
What are those cables that are missing from the P5P800, and will I need them?

I also see the P5P800 doesn't come with a CD?

Also, I'd like to know if it is possible to disable the onboard sound card of the P5P800 in the BIOS? Since I'll be getting a sound card, and it might not work so well with an integrated card enabled.

Thanks very much.

I don't think they bothered to photo everything.

My box had the following: Mobo
2 x USB 2.0 ports on a I/O module
1 game port on the same I/O module
2 x Sata cables
1 x ultra DMA 133/100/66 cable
40 conductor IDE cable
Floppy disc cable
I/O shield
User guide book
ASUS mobo support CD with drivers , utilities, etc
The ends of the IDE and Floppy cables have pull tabs for ease in identifiing the end that goes to the mobo and the end that goes to the optical or floppy drive (no metal; just plastized paper).
Everything you need will be in the box.
Your sound card should have the audio cable, or perhaps the CD/DVD RW will have an audio cable.

In the Bios you can enable/disable the onboard LAN and Audio.

I will offer one suggestion based on the number of problems listed in this thread. Get a power supply of at least 450+ watts, if you are using multiple HDD's and an AGP card with fan cooling. Anything less than 450W and you may not even boot up.

OK thank you very much NotquiteanooB.

I will have two SATA hard drvies (NOT in a RAID array), and a passive cooled very basic graphics card like the Nvidia FX5200.

I already have a 485W Enermax PSU so I think it should be ok.

Thanks.

Glad to hear you have it working 'reket21'; but frankly I'm surprised at the number people reporting the same problem. I'm using a 380 w PS and it boots fine. I wonder what the common thread is? I have a gut feeling it is the newer AGP cards that have lots of DDR memory and big honkin' fans to cool the Vid chip (they are power hogs). Some , like myself have older vid cards with passive cooling, haven't had the power problem. But; I don't think I'm totally safe yet... I run 24/7 and I'm often away from the PC's for 8 to 12 hours, and on 2 occassions have come back to an error message of a catastrophic failure "send a report' to Microsloth! I know the unit went thru a restart. I'm wondering if power bumps or line fluctuations are causing these. I plan to pickup a 480W or higher PS and give it a try.

That appears to have been the problem in my case. Remounting the heatsink seemed to get things working. Thanks for the help!

I've used a few P5P's for work and they seem to work great... the price is right and the performance is on par.
Good board overall I'd say.
