I just got me a new 780i motherboard and I was just wondering what kind of videocard setup should I be getting for the board

Option a) 2 GTX280s (2-way SLI)

Option b) 1 GTX280 and wait till a better card comes out?

Option c) 2 GTX260s (2-way SLI)

Option d) 3 GTX9800+s (3-way SLI)

Option e) keep the old XFX 8800GTX and wait till January-March for a better overall card

Option f) None of the above / find other card solution

The main reason for this thread is that I want to make sure I have the right kind of card setup to be able to run my games at full settings, movies and graphics *computer modeling and computer animation* on my Dell 3008WFP 30"inch LCD monitor

Hope thats enough info to help anyone advise the best setup for me.;)
Any help would be much appreciated and also I am also new to Anandtech and hope to stay since this site has alot to offer:)

9800gtx isn't much better than a 8800gtx so forget about those. I would say stick with your 8800gtx until August's launch of the R700 (probably named 4870X2) as AMD claims it will outperform GTX280 and very likely cheaper than what the GTX280 is now.

The problem is I have an SLI board, cant do much now with an ATI card, unless what your trying to say is wait for the X2 to come out, although its 2 gpus slapped together its still one card, and is better than 1 GTX280. But it I feel at a loss since I got me an SLI board and even though I could use an ATI card, I cant do crossfire. Not sure if I am making any sense but, thats how I feel about getting 1 card, where my board could handle 2. But since you mentioned about the 9800gtx option for not getting that since my 8800GTX is just as good, i guess I wont have the 9800GTX in as one of my options.

Can you find a card setup, where I could still make use of my SLI?? remember, I have a 30"inch LCD, in a way, I feel the 4870X2 could not handle it alone, thats why I'm trying for a 2-way/3-way setup, since I have read with that kind of setup one could benefit it using a 30"inch LCD.

Thanks for the tip though:thumbsup:

I was thinking that but don't see any 8800GTX for <$300 at the moment. You could pick one up on ebay for cheaper I suppose.
