Asus P5N-E Bios Update Issue

Hi all,

Considering the pathetic excuse for a website that Asus has, that I can't even access most of the time because of too much traffic to the troubleshooting sections.

Basically I downloaded all the bios updates, had them ready to go. I used the AsusUpdate Program for windows, I figured it should work well enough considering other people had used it, and that in this day and age you'd think it'd be a non-issue. So I loaded the program up, saved the original bios, loaded a new one and while I had nothing on in the background, I hit next...and the program did its dance.

Now, there seemed to be no issue, other than for the fact that it couldn't complete for some reason, so I left it at that and decided to check some emails. Afterwards I restarted it for the sake of interest, and it wouldn't boot/post! The board is plugged in properly, everything is sweet....the only thing that happens is that the HDD light is on all the time from the moment the computer is turned on. But that's it, nothing.

I have tried everything part from unplugging the PSU and leaving the cmos battery out overnight (otherwise I left it out for an hour) along with the cmos jumper reset for 10 seconds or a bloody hour!

Seriously though, something so damn simple that I've done with other boards without a hitch, could turn into a hidden cost to post it back for repair/replacement.

If there is some sort of magical idea I can use to atleast reset it, I would be greatly thankful.

Although I am an optimist with a serving of realism, I have my doubts about anything other than getting it replaced, I think she's fuzzed! But that's my opinion.

Yes, as you can see above in my rant.

To me, if there was even the slight possibility of such a thing happening with the windows Asusupdate program, then they shouldn't make it a part of the motherboard at all.

Basically it just means they've lost a customer the next time around. I mean, if I were an elementary computer user, it would desperately frustrate me, which shouldn't be the case when your paying $180 AUS just for a motherboard.

Yeah, thanks for the link.

I looked over that topic/thread in complete desperation, I couldn't find any more information. I have literally tried everything BUT unplugging the PSU from the board while resetting the cmos via jumper and battery removal.

Here's a good one for you: I got my P5N-E SLI up and running great, but I had one little bug that I wanted to fix: it would not powerdown all the way and I had to manually restart during OS installation. I upgraded the BIOS to 0405 and then it could not even boot enough for me to get into the BIOS setup. I downgraded BIOS to 0202 and could get to BIOS setup, but the MOBO could not read the boot sector of any HD on either IDE channel.

I played with it for a while, during which I found this forum - thanks guys - but basically gave up. Thankfully I bought it from a fantastic store in town (Intrex Computers of Chapel Hill) so I took it back to them. They were able to reproduce the error I had, concluded that the IDE controller was the problem, and offered a full value trade-in on another board.

So I'm here to tell you that I FAILED to get this beautiful, exciting, and powerful board to work. Now I'm running an Intel board and we are very happy together.
