I'm building a computer with a ASUS P5L-VM 1394 mobo (i945G), with 4x 1GB DDR2-667 sticks. Problem is, it reserves 896MB of memory for it's own use??? :Q That leaves only 3200MB usable by the OS!
I tried updating the BIOS, to the latest stable 0602 and the latest beta 0702, but still the same amount reserved, plus 8MB for integrated GMA950. I even tried with a Nvidia 7100GS 128MB card, still 3200MB available.
I roamed the BIOS settings, see if it was anything in them, but to no avail.
The rest of the system components are: Core 2 Duo E6600 (stock cooler), HDD Hitachi 80GB SATA2, ODD Samsung 18x Lightscribe, 450w Linkworld PSU (I know, crappy but enough).
The reason I need so much memory, is that this is going to be a office computer, but it's going to process a lot of data from a VDO FleetManager program, consolidating vehicle usage data with GPS data, generating maps of vehicle travel. It needs quite a bit of processing power and memory.
Any clues???
