ASUS P5KC not installing/using ethernet drivers...

My ASUS P5KC is not installing/using the Attansic ethernet drivers correctly. I'm running Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate and I'm using the Vista 64-bit (since those are the only ones available on the site that match).

I install the drivers, reset, the network icon shows up in the bottom righthand corner with an X over it. When I click troubleshoot, it tells me that a network adapter needs to be installed. I check the device manager and there's no network adapter there.

I have the onboard network enabled in the BIOS, so I don't know why this is happening. Any ideas?

I have the same controller on my P5K, running Win 7 64-bit....I have never had to install the driver from Asus website, Win 7 found one all by itself.

If you have a spare NIC you can install, use Windows update to get the driver.

The closest thing I have is laptop that I can get on to retrieve files with, but the only driver I'm finding is the same one I've already downloaded and installed a few times with this same problem.

If I uninstall the Attansic software from the programs list and restart, Windows update only finds a driver for the 1394 device (which I have disabled in the BIOS, by the way). It never even detects that there's another networking device.

Check the BIOS. Make sure the integrated ethernet adapter is enabled there.

Yeah, it's enabled. Something else I've noticed is that neither of the three PCI ethernet adapters I've tried in the system (while the onboard ethernet is off) work either. They're all from the 1998-2000 era so that may be an issue there, but the ethernet is enabled in the BIOS and when Windows starts it acts like it loads the driver, the driver just never shows up in the device manager and I don't have the option to connect to a network because of this.

A quick test would be booting to a Linux Live cd like Ubuntu or Linux Mint and see if your problem persists. If so, maybe a hardware issue..
