Background::

So, I went to Fry's this morning. Well... I was thinking of just taking a look at the mobo and cases. Found Antec 900 on offer for $69.99 (4 left when I was there), so I quickly took it. Looked at the mobo section, was actually going to get a P35 based mobo... I was gonna go get the P35-DS3R (the ddr2 one) but they dont have it on stock. The P5K-E was on sale for $189.99 (which I found out is actually not the best price as the online stores).

I will get the CPU, RAM and most of the other parts later after the price cut, thinking that they will be cheaper later on. Those two parts (case and mobo) was on sale and I think they wont really cut the prices of the mobo as they are already cutting the price of the CPUS (am i correct??)

I am undecided on whether to keep the mobo or get another one. Options

1. Return the mobo, get the same mobo online @ newegg or mwave (prefer mwave as I can pick up the parts from their warehouse which is 10 mins away from me).

2. Return the mobo, get another mobo from online store. [which one should I get??] -- I am planning to get the Corsair XMS 2GB DDR2RAM (Timing 5-5-5-12) Cas 5 or the OCZ 2GB DDR2 RAM (Timing 4-4-4-15) Cas 4

3. Keep the mobo??

Story of the line::: Dont make impulse purchases like me.. :(

Hmm, i would have swore that I saw a lower price somewhere online. Maybe thats for the other flavor of P5K mobos. I am also kinda confused. APparently all the sites (newegg, mwave, clubit,ZZF,clubIT) doesnt have P5K-E listed but they have the followings ::

regular ASUS P5K LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail -- $150
ASUS P5K DELUXE/WIFI-AP LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail -- $225
ASUS P5K3 DELUXE/WIFI-AP LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail -- $250 (DDR3)

I think mine is close to the 2nd one, but without the 2nd LAN. It was listed at Fry;s for $219.99 before the discounts.

Now, I am also considering these other mobos

GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3R LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail -- $130
GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3P LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail -- $150 (whats the difference between DS3R and DS3P??)
GIGABYTE GA-P35C-DS3R LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail -- $160 (DDR3 RAM flexibility)
ABIT IP35 Pro LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail -- $185
MSI P35 Platinum LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail -- $170

So many to choose from.... :( If i dont see the P5k-E online/elsewhere, is Asus discontinuing/dropping that mobo from their product line? That make me worried about the support/warranty issue later on.

I plan to pair the mobo with a E65/6750.

ASUS P5K-E/WIFI-AP is not available yet at major US retailers.

You'd better return the mobo and get GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3P.

o.. so the mobo I got is a new model?? Strange. One of the thing I like about the ASUS mobo is the Qconnector feature. Do you recommend getting the G-P35C-DS3R for the DDR3 flexibility?? I plan to keep this system for at least 3-4 years (my last p4 which I am still using now is reaching its 4th yr anniversary).

P5K-E/WIFI-AP is a brand new model. There is littile reviews (professional or users') yet. The G-P35C-DS3R may be a good choice if you use it for 4 years.
