Asus P5K Deluxe and P5K Premium

There's both a P5K Deluxe/WiFi-AP and a P5K Premium. Both have the same specs as far as I can tell...so what is the difference? They're the same price too 😕
 
I don't know all the details but the P5K Premium is supposed to be more expensive and its under the Black Pearl Edition that celebrate ASUS success with the P35 chipset. You can actually cool your motherboard chipset with water cooled solution rather than fan.

Anyway, this board is not released yet so if you can get it somewhere, I suggest you not to get it because what you are getting might be some kind of engineering sample or some "gray market" from overseas or whatever.

You're thinking of the Blitz Formula (watercooling block). This is not that one. Strange...

ANyhow I ordered a P5K Deluxe from mwave.com (cheaper than newegg).
 
They are so much differents...Asus changed all the power mosfet around the socket,added some capacitors around the pcb and first of all added a mosfet on the ddr2 channel. In the p5k deluxe there's only 1 mosfet for 4 channels with some problems of stability. With premium there're 2 mosfet. Asus declared that with this solution the new premium can work stable with ram over 1400 mhz!!!
I had p5k deluxe for some months,it's a great mobo,but now is time to try my p5k premium . I ordered it...i'll let you know somethings on next week
 
Hmm, interesting. The rest of the changes look like marketing fluff on the P5K Premium vs. the Deluxe, but if they did change the power circuitry I wonder how much that really helps, both in terms of reducing power consumption as well as genuining improving overclocking.
 
asus has added the premium to their webpage. It looks like it should hit a slightly higher max fsb then the deluxe and its priced fairly close, though if you want there highest end p35 its the blitz formula se/extreme (no price/availability info yet).

Getting Abit IP35 Pro instead of any of these options. Lots of good reports and very few or the bad that other boards have been seeing. At least from my reading.
 
I am also wondering what the difference is between the two boards. I'm about to order the Premium with a Q6600. I saw that ZipZoomFly wants some outrageous $400 for the Premium board! I hate buying stuff early when it first comes out but screw it, I'll get it anyway. Anyway, I have been unable to find the info page for the P5K Premium on Asus's site even by searching for it. I did however find it thru NewEgg's manufacturer's product page link...

Gotta give Asus a 9.5 for marketing. Course when you're the top dog in the industry, you can afford to play this game. ECS = Value. Biostar = Midrange. Abit = Performance.

I think this dude is right. I went to Asus's site and printed pics of both the Deluxe and the Premium boards and compared them side by side. There are definitely more/different capacitors on the Premium board. ALSO, I think I just noticed the price for the Premium drop $10. Today it's CHEAPER than the Deluxe. It wasn't that way yesterday. NewEgg confuses me sometimes with their crazy pricing games but I like it provided I can take advantage of it. RAD!
 
The memory support/requirements are also different. From newegg:

Deluxe: Memory Standard DDR2 1066 / 800 / 667 MHz The chipset officially supports the memory frequency up to DDR2 800MHz. Tuned by ASUS Super Memspeed Technology, this motherboard natively supports up to DDR2 1066MHz

Premium: DDR2 1066

The question is, does the new Premium support the ddr2 800, cus newegg's got a great price on ballistix ddr2 800 right now.

Why wouldn't it? Seriously...They'll sell 0 of them if it tries to default all memory to DDR2-1066 at 266Mhz FSB.
 
Dunno, not really an expert (translation: don't know jack) when it comes to all the different memory speeds and what works with what.

But, i know in older systems (at least on the server side), DDR333 would downclock automatically to DDR266, but DDR400 would not - it would only work in DDR400 systems. So it is possible that the slowest ram you can use is PC8500 - DDR1066.
 
I've been trying to figure this out as well. I downloaded the manuals for both and printed out the specs summaries. They are identical with except for the following differences:

Storage:
Deluxe
Southbridge Supports Raid 0 and 1
Premium
Southbridge Supports Raid 0, 1, 5 and 10

Audio:
Premium adds ASUS AI Audio 2

 
Old thread, but a good question.... so we've got the following differences if I'm summarizing correctly:

Premium has better cooling onboard in the form of beefier heatsinks? Is that really it?
 
I will say this again and I will say it many times again.

The P5K Premium has a serious sata hardware problem, if you do get the board make sure you get the board version A03 with the 0302 bios. Read up on the asus forums for more info.

Even if it says V2.0 make sure it says A03 on the board, anything less and you will be forced to use sata in ide mode or face sata problems.

This board is known as the Black Eye Edition, take it from me and others who have been through all this mess and make sure you get the proper version.

Thanks for all the information. Can you explain exactly where these version markings are located on the board?

I am planning to use 6 x 750GB WD HDD's and I am really concerned about many of the problems mentioned. Will these HDD's likely work well with the new versions of the MoBo and the latest bios?

No, it was in my gaming rig for a few months before I upgraded to the 780i. It's in my wifes computer running just fine.
